In this tutorial we tie a small, 2 strand gaucho knot. It can serve well as a button knot and can be used to make zipper pulls as well.

Enjoy the tutorial!

Everyone who's having trouble here's something you can try:
1. Take it slow.
2. Mute the video.
3. Pause often, especially- no, in particularly, when you can see the knot, and not when he's covering it with his hands, which is most of the video.

I do believe this is the over 2 under 2 foot rope knot.

This is the same knot as ABOK 792, but tied by a more difficult methods.

I just tied it without a mandrel around my finger. After a few frustrating tries I finally got it right. Nice knot. I used it as a decorative knot behind my whistle on my whistle cord.

This knot is found in Ashley Book of.Knots #792, it is called a foot rope knot. However, your method of tying it makes it convenient by forming it on your finger adjacent to a zipper toung. Thanks for sharing.

I have watched this about 10 times so far... I can see what you are doing, but the confusion seems to come in for me as you start to work the cords back down the Mandrel after doing the first pass... the Working end of the 1st Cord is left loose and swaps backwards and forwards when you turn the Mandrel to the point I lose track of where it should lie in the knot so that as you start the "under 2 - Over 2" section I can't see which 2 you are going under and have no idea where the working end of the first pass is supposed to lie... which then throws out it's sequence of "Under 2 - Over 2" I have even tried to follow the moves of the Mandrel exactly and repeat what I see of the loose working end moving moving backwards and forwards but I just cannot make it work... I have tried different Mandrels - a thin-ish pen and then a Maglight... which seems about as thick as your piece of wood... no luck with it...

Is this knot different from the diamond knot of two strands?

Mark, This is harder than I first thought... I'm not seeing clearly at around 2:08... I've tried to do this one 20 times already... I must be a total dunce... LOL... I'll keep at it... Kenn <><

Nice knot. All of your other turks heads and gauchos are quite easy to follow and very easy to tie. This video is very fast and doesn't show very well which cords go under and over

I’m sorry but you need a better system of explaining this. As soon as you twist and turn it it’s pretty much game over. Try color coding

It looks so simple but I can't do it! What do you use for a mandrel - are there sets of them?
