Fyi putting the original screen brings back face id. I tried this with both devices and got the same result. It's a sad reality but swapping screens means you will no longer have face id.

Apple is really screwing themselves. Since many states in the US are working on right to repair laws when it comes to phones. I see many lawsuits in their future.

Now Samsung have started implementing anti repair stuff as well it seems. On the Galaxy A51, if you replace the fingerprinter sensor it stops it from working properly and if If you unlock the bootloader on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it stops the cameras from functioning completelely.

I love how Apple makes the inside of the phones beatiful, labeled and simplistic and then completely refuses to let you fix it yourself

Another note is that I believe when iOS 14.4.2 was released the non-genuine Display message went away completely for the 11 series with an aftermarket screen installed (even some aftermarket screens for the 12 series wouldn't show the warning message), now if you update to iOS 15 the message re appears for the 11 & 12 series :( they're really targeting people who repair.

I quit my job yesterday because of this, when I put my 2 weeks the owner said they didn’t blame me because the future for the industry isn’t looking good. I love fixing phones and fixing computers but well the careers gone there’s no more career path without soldering. And nobody trains on solder and soldering school is much more than a ged. I applied to every apple authorized shop in my area, but unfortunately they require per apple a thc test and ged, even though nearly all shops said I was the only applicant with actual apple certifications, so out of all 4 shops zero luck. I’m going to have to make a career change while living absolute penny paycheck to paycheck. I hope I don’t go homeless. I dont blame apple. I just regret this career path sometimes

Apple has the guts to talk about security when a simple screen replacement breaks so-called security. And the worst part is, Apple can reverse all of this with a simple software update but they don't want to all in the name of selling more phones.
