We use these special lead hammers to keep wheel finishes safe. We make them ourselves and use two sizes to get the job done.

I think the compounds like lead acetate or lead carbonate are the bad ones Or types of lead that dissolve in acid, which are usually granular like salt. Those can enter your body SUPER easy.

The lead in my hand isn’t a compound, it’s pure lead. Maybe still “harmful”, it’s not anything like ingesting it in a compound form or breathing in fumes of it while mining it.

I did 3 minutes of research and found this out.. do better chat!

Also rubber doesn’t work well as a hammer.

I’m looking into rawhide as a possible alternative.

And I love all of you for commenting regardless if you just dropped hate/misinformation. This is a judgement free zone 😊

I love those hammers. I use them to move angles and dimensions on my sheet metal. They absorb the blow but are solid at the same time. They keep from damaging the parts soooo well. I hate rubber mallets and Teflon. Lead is the way to go.

Pathology and toxicology professor here. Whenever melting lead, do so under an exhaust or fume hood. Lead evaporates quite easily and it’s a heavy metal. It wreaks havoc on your health, specially your ROS detoxification enzymes and heme synthesis pathway, just to mention a few. Btw, once in, it’s quite impossible to remove lead from our body.

My guy is raw-dogging that lead like he's immune to heavy metal toxicity

I worked at a lead refinery. Definitely get your blood lead checked as long as it’s under 10 you’re good. Invest in a respirator when you’re smelting and take a shower and wash your clothes every time you leave your shop so you don’t expose kids under 5 years old

As a former Lead Welder, i can tell you without a doubt... If he's not wearing a PAPR while melting down the lead, he'll get lead poisoning in no time lol

Boeing actually stopped using lead hammers to its factory workers back in 1990. Biggest issue i can see is that there are going to be tiny bits breaking off the hammer as dust whenever you make a hit or break it out of a mold. Should be wearing breathing PPE at least if you absolutely need to use these things.

Make sure you try to melt lead below 900F. Lead melts at 621F.
Fumes are released at 900F. Lead fumes
can be breathed in and also settle on sur-
faces as lead oxide — the yellowish/brown
dust formed when fumes mix with air

He didn't want to answer the dude when he asked what kind of hammer it was. His thought process was like social media is gonna love this one.

Melts his own lead but thinks he has lead in his system from brake dust

Seriously bro, get your lead levels checked! You're absorbing quite a bit if you're not strictly washing your hands. Absorption is slower with inorganic lead, but still it gets absorbed. Being extra stubborn may be a sign its reaching your brain, either from touching your sweaty face or forhead. From the comments you have alot of professionals worried about what you're doing... Stay safe, get checked.

This video should come with a Proposition 65 warning. I got uneasy just looking at that hammer.

Called a "Dead Blow" hammer. The hammer deforms so as to deaden the blow, and not leave any marks.
