For over 20 years the most powerful person in the Bronze Age world was a woman. One ruling the wealthiest Kingdom ever seen and she did it as a fully fledged Pharaoh.

But when she died her legacy was purposefully erased. Today people can barely pronounce her name.

Hatshepsut's rise to power was noteworthy as it required her to utilize her bloodline, education, and an understanding of religion. In this video, we'll look at her rise to power and her legacy.

Loved the animated little Hatshepsut & Thutmose. You really brought this time period to life with. Awesome video man!

I'd like to defend Thutmose III here, because we don't actually know that it was him responsible for the erasure of Hatshepsut; while it may have been him acting on his son's behalf, Amenhotep II already had a level of power at the end of his father's reign, and it's therefore possible that he himself gave the order, and not his dear old dad.

The hapsburgs are incest amateurs compared to Egypt! Awesome video though. I had only briefly heard her story before, I thought she replaced the child. Didn't know she didn't ran the place so he could take over. Good for her!

I just noticed that Australia is upside down in the map. That’s taking memeing to a new level. Nice detail.

This is what Netflix should make a series about. As long as they stay as historical as possible, it would hit all of their social points along with telling a great story.

I have mixed feelings about this... Hatshepsut was an AWESOME pharaoh, probably the best of the best (I'm probably exaggerating)... But the fact that they tried to wipe her out of history just makes me so mad and sad

Thank you for this video, Hatshepsut is one of my favorite historical figures. People so often misunderstand her reign. I appreciate you describing why she was a king of Egypt and not just a queen. The terms are not actually equivalent, as a king holds power in their own right, a queen by proxy (unless you're the right kind of queen in the british system, but generally true). She must've been fierce.
P.S. I love the creation story of Atum because it is so pragmatic. If the Creator creates the universe alone....how else is he gonna do it?

What an amazing human and woman. Highly inspiring actually. Thank you for bringing her story to life in this 20th Century. I wont forget this. Will be looking into her story further. Amazing diplomat, king maker and Ruler. Against her times yet successful in spite of those times too. Wow.

She is my favorite pharaoh for sure! She expanded trade in the region like crazy! Her rule was a peaceful time for her kingdom. She rocked!

Egypt, even a united Egypt, often had two Pharaohs at the same time. This was normally a Father & son once the son came of age. The Father represented Osiris and the Son Horus. It would have been relatively simple for Hatshepsut to use this for her purposes. Actually, the Egyptian's attempts to eradicate Hetshepsut's memory worked in reverse. It helped preserve evidence of her existence. She is more famous than most male Pharaohs.

Niccolo Machiavelli should have learnt about this Pharaoh. She must have been something else to achieve that status for so long without bloodshed.

Thank you for this video my three year really enjoyed it and actually sat through. So awesome!! Another thing, I’m grateful to hear about Hatshepsut she’s not as popular as the other pharaoh’s.

If people can say "tutankhamum" then they can say "hatshepsut."
