I Will Pour Out My Spirit on All Flesh [Joel 2:28-29]

What needs to happen in order for God to pour out his spirit on all flesh? What is the purpose of God pouring out his spirit on all flesh? Joel 2:28-29 are the most well-known verses in the book of the Prophet Joel. These are the verses where God promises to pour out His Spirit on all flesh. Sons and daughters will prophesy, old men dream dreams, and young men will see visions.

But, as wonderful as the promise is, something needs to happen before this promise of spiritual renewal will take place. Also, there's a not-so-obvious for God pouring out His Spirit on all flesh. I talk about both these points in this teaching.

Thank you again brother, this book just came to me immediately after praying to God pertaining the convid19. And now I can see how God works graciously with his people when he wants them to repent, for his will is not for the sinners to perish but to come to repentance and live. Amen

Pastor Mario you did an amazing job with clarifying these scriptures. For years I have heard and quoted them, but never really had a clear understanding as to what they meant. Thanks so much for enlightening me.

I am presently reading The Book of Joel and coming to my mind is the Great Tribulation. Different denominations have a different interpretation of The Book of Joel. Right now, I tend to agree with the 1st View. If the Holy Spirit convicts me otherwise, I will gladly receive that conviction because I want to know the Truth.

1st VIEW: Joel’s prophecy was not fulfilled at all on Pentecost because Peter did not say the prophecy was fulfilled. The Book of Joel says a number of must happen before this prophecy can be fulfilled, which have not occured as yet.

2nd VIEW: The prophecy of Joel was completely fulfilled on the day of Pentecost and the prophecy was meant to be understood symbolically. Therefore it represented the coming of the Holy Spirit and while there as no literal fulfillment of the prediction, there was a complete fulfillment.

3rd VIEW: There is a partial fulfillment at Pentecost that will continue to be fulfilled until Jesus Christ returns. Therefore the prophecy of Joel began on Pentecost but it will not reach its complete fulfillment until Christ returns from the earth.

I was wondering if this time period in verse 28 and 29is a reference to Pentecost as well as to the time when they repent

The Verse that you are referring to is to the day of Pentecost, when the Apostle Peter was showing that the Prophetic word of the Prophet Joel was in fact being fulfilled. That Prophetic utterance was for that day, The day of Pentecost. Not today. Note that the Apostle Peter was stating that the last days was commencing. (Act 2:17 KJV), (Joel 2:28 KJV).

Now The Apostle Paul speaks of the time that we are in now, and states:

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2Th 2:11-12 KJV)
