There's been lots of talk about the Man Booker longlist this year with a wide range of books, authors and genres generating plenty of debate. Will has a quick rundown of the books that have caught his eye and also mentions a couple of new graphic novels if you've been bitten by the bug after reading Nick Drnaso's Sabrina.

Nice to see your summing up of the list, Will. I think The Water Cure is probably one of my books of the year as well. I've got to read Sabrina after your enthusiastic praise and great thoughts about how mental health issues can be more compellingly portrayed in graphic novel form. I'll look out for Square Eyes too. I always mean to read more graphic fiction and memoirs - I'm a huge fan of the first two volumes of Riad Sattouf's memoirs.
Looking forward to your forthcoming interviews.

I couldn't agree more on graphic novel's strength in depicting mental health, or state of mind. I just read a graphic memoir called "Spinning" which talks about the author's coming of age and among other things, sexuality and loneliness, but much of the emotional state of the book is done through the art without words.

I'm reading the entire longlist and have finished 8 so far and currently reading Powers.

My thoughts so far are that Robertson's book is well ahead of Ryan, Johnson, Ondaatje, Gunaratne, Burns with Bauer and Kushner also-rans. Bauer is a shockingly bad book.
