The ambassador said the Israeli air defence is not structured to defend against ballistic missiles.
In fact, Israel operates the Arrow anti ballistic missile system. One of the best in the world. The Arrow is integrated to the 'iron dome' and 'Davids sling' air defence system giving layers of air defense to deal with any threat at short, medium or long ranges. Including ballistic trajectorys.

Post attack photos of Nevatim airbase showed hits to aircraft shelters and runway disabled. Many hits in that base alone that is why the US is sending the system the Israeli's were overwhelmed and it can het larger.
