The AFWI developed the video with considerable input from our partners at the Harvard Center on the Developing Child and the FrameWorks Institute. Using metaphors developed by FrameWorks and tested with audiences both in the US and in Alberta, "How Brains are Built" infuses core story concepts with energy, accessibility, and high fidelity to the science.

I don't know if I'm the right person to be the first to comment on this, but this is a really good video for young and/or soon-to-be parents. It's not my time yet, but it will be at some point in my life, and I'll need this video.

That was the most accurate, short, and creative explanation I've ever seen for child development. I loved it. Thank you.

I agree Mark. the video is excellent and makes the basic points very clearly, but I also wish the essential role of play had been described.

This is a great video on how to build healthy brains in children. The video seems simple but the science behind it is serious.

I agree that this is a really good video about the developing brain in young children and a solid social foundation is the band-aid that covers all ailments.

Parenting a child early on the correct way really does have impacts. It's kind of like making or breaking a childs future in a way.

As I watched this video I cant help but ask this question about toxic stress? The kids that "feel" neglected not because they have a bad home but because both parents work to pay for life is that toxic stress to the child? Some might say yes, other might say no. However communication is the key to being a parent. I can say this because I am a father of 3 girls and 1 boy. I just wanted to put some perspective out there. Yes having two working parents might not be what a household wants but for the betterment of the family its what it needs to survive and thrive. Or have one working parent and be stressed now as parents because money is tighter and that tension the child will pick up on believe me. My wife and I have always said it takes a tribe to raise a child. Cheers

Building a brain, or any complex cognitive system, can pose various challenges due to the intricacies of neural development and the complexity of the human brain.
