This was super useful - seeing an expert analyze poetry by non-expert poets (at least for the most part) is new and particularly useful in ways to your (at least for the most part) non-expert poet audience.
Additionally, the chance these writers get to receive that expert advice may be the only time they ever receive such an expert analysis of and commentary on their work.
I love this series already.

Hats off to you for giving suggestions to make already good poems even better! For someone who’s not an English major or quite far from the humanities, these are such valuable (and inspirational) suggestions to look into, even for those not feeling brave enough to send in (hmm… wonder who 😅). Your editing is superb, without losing most of the sentiments or imagery conveyed (writers may have a hard time filtering with the urge to hold on to or showcase all aspects to the minute detail at times). These are talented poets and you’ve curated to highlight specific aspects in each and I could see some poems already doing what you’d mentioned in the previous! The last one was so heavy with such palpable tension and your suggestion made it even tighter and polished! I think these are more valuable than going over already published poems from famous poets—that would’ve undergone many such revisions already—to show what they did right!
Btw, I have a question on capitalization… what is the general “rule” on that? I’ve seen some that capitalize only at the beginning of a sentence, as in after a period (even outside of these) and some that don’t. 🎉❤

Excellent breakdown! I appreciate this format on your channel, it's refreshing to see someone who understands language. On another note, I am I the only person who is not a big fan of poetry that doesn't rhyme? It seems like rhyming is nearly gone from contemporary poetry, not sure why. I enjoy non-rhyming poetry of course, but it feels more like reading personal thoughts jotted down. Anyway, I hope to see more of these review videos in the future!

Thanks so much for this video. The feedback given on these poems helps with my own. Two of my biggest takeaways: write using language that people actually use, and don’t get too caught up with the ‘rules’ if they hold back the poem’s quality. Some very good advice here.
