Frederick Hitch's Account Of The Battle of Rorke's Drift

Frederick Hitch, VC (29 November 1856 – 6 January 1913) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross for his actions at the Battle of Rorke's Drift, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Sir....My GREAT GRANDFATHER, Pt. John William Fielding, (aka John Williams V.C.) apparently never spoke or recollected the Battle....John fought side by side with Pt. Henry Hook posted in the Hospital Building...all well documented.
I had the unbelievable privilege of meeting with Zulu King GOODWILL ZWELITHINI at a Pageant held on behalf of the Zulu Nation on the 21st July 2019....a proud Day indeed.

I have read enough British military history to know that the hateful (there is no other word) British government NEVER took care properly of their war veterans. Does Lloyd George´s famous sentence "A land fit for heroes" ring a bell? It is both sad and infuriating, and I am not even British. I always have a deep sympathy and respect for old soldiers, it is as simple as that. War veterans should be priority No. 1 for any decent gorvernment.

so which was the "other company of the battalion" mentioned at 11:15 that turned back thinking the post had been lost? Where had they been and where did they go?
Maybe it was Major Spalding with the reinforcements that he went to get from Helpmekaar? If so, that does not get much mention.

I think it was max 1000 Zulu's, as only 350 were killed, and if it were 3000, they would just have overan the defences!
