I wanted to update the care video I did on my milk snake peter. Considering the fact that his enclosure is no longer the same as it was. So tell me what you guys think of the video down in the comments. If there is anyone that know anything on how I can improve my videos or husbandry feel free to do so as well.

You asked about substrates..
For a cage with limited ventilation, aspen is usually good. Such as in a tub/rack. For a glass cage with a screen top, then I will agree with you that forest floor or similar soil-type substrate is appropriate. It all comes down to the snake not losing too much moisture from its skin to the air. Ambient humidity obviously matters to what you eventually do.

These animals do not need high humidity at all, but in the wild they live in burrows where humidity is in the 50-60% range and is quite stable, and they emerge mostly only when conditions above ground are suitable, which can often mean dusk and evening. That is how they conserve moisture. They do not have constant access to standing water in the wild, probably very rarely. They don't need it often at all. In captivity we provide it because conditions may not be perfect, so better safe than sorry.

I have a ball python already -- considering getting a milk snake and was worried their needs were drastically different -- I'm glad they're so similar

I like this channel because he gets to the point and explains why he prefers what he prefers.

I definitely need to switch to the substrate he uses because my milk snake loves being sprayed down and I’ve always worried about getting mold in her tank. Does anyone have a link to where I can get the substrates?

Thanks for this video Josue! I have the same day/night heating set up for my milk snake and it gave me some peace of mind that she’ll be comfortable. Also I use aspen bedding only because it’s really humid during the summertime here in SoCal ☹️ once it’s really cold and dry in the wintertime I’ll probably get my hands on some forest floor bedding! Thanks again man, great video! 👍🏼

Hi! Thanks for the amazing video! I got a milk snake yesterday, I have her in my room and bought the light the reptile girl recommended, she came with an amazing enclosure as well same as the one in your video . I’m wondering this issue, I keep the light on during the day but since my room is cold at night, what can I do so it dosent get too cold for her at night? I’m getting a heating pad next week but what can I do for now? Thanks for the great video!

If I use aspen but then also provide a humidity box would that work

This is great info thank you! How do you know when the snake isn’t hungry? How long do you leave the live or frozen in the enclosure?

what do you recommend to feed a newborn milk snake? it stormed badly here for 3 weeks straight and was born near a autobody shop and was taking refuge there & been there ever since. Hes super tiny! (the size of a dollar coin), he didnt want the newborn pinkie on Saturday. im going to try again today. I know i know its bad to take from the wild but he would not have survived all that flooding and they kept releasing him and he kept coming back due to the flooding. i caved and picked him up. i already have 2 big snakes so i have no experience with a new born.

I heard that feeding could be done once a week for young snakes, and for adults once every two weeks. is this a good feeding schedule to follow?
