That's why we call them a "pair of pants". Because each leg used to be separate

Public displays of emotion were seen as manly.

Dudes are always weeping and distraught in old texts. Often shown as a positive thing. I remember reading a account of a crusader who fought around aleppo. Dude was always crying.

The color pink and knitting too~

This shows how easy it is to influence people's perception of "masculinity". Or just perception and any nonsense beauty standard in general.

It's interesting that one of the recurring themes is that it is not just "manly-turned-feminine" but "wealthy-turned-feminine".
Namely habits or styles needing disposable income or lots of time to maintain that seem to drift into being "unmanly"....

In 9th grade, i learned that men originally wore high heels and long hair. There was a pic of a spanish king (I think his name was Phillip), amd our teacher spent 10 minutes explaining the heels and long curly hair/leggings. But the man was dripped out 😅😅

I still can't get over how this man looks absolutely majestic.

Now make a video where you list things that used to be feminine and are manly now please, I'd be really interested in that too.

Us Native men STILL have long hair 😁 it's sad to see boys my age (teens + below) cut off their long hair.

It’s funny about the heel thing because I wear cowboy boots; I once hit on a chick saying ‘hey nice shoes although I think my heels are better’ made her laugh pretty hard.

There is nothing wrong with kilts. I dont care that they resemble skirts. I'm proud of my heritage.

Not just leggings and tight pants, but full-on tights with attached feet and everything. They were called hose.

As a straight woman, I approve!

My husband looks great with tight pants; and judging from his old Facebook photos, he looks great with long hair, too!

I know our culture talks about "curves" on a woman but my husband has some natural curve to him and I love it! He was confused when I first told him I liked his curves, hahaha. Goes to show that sterotypes about gender are often social and not necessarily reflective of what it means to be a man or a woman.

fun fact: the roman toga was reserved for men, and considered peak masculinity.

This one’s more recent but crop tops, in the 80s men used to wear them to the gym to get around the no shirt policy

Cheerleading also used to be considered masculine and was male-dominated. In fact, a surprising number of recent U.S. presidents were high school and/or college cheerleaders.

Me 1 month later: Mum, my comment got more than 10 likes. I’m basically a celebrity!!!

Makeup was also made for men originally! It dates back to tribal times, with hunting/battle paint, and stayed as a manly thing in ancient Rome, Egypt, the Elizabethan era and 18th century France. Pretty much everywhere it was used, it was a way to symbolize status and wealth!
