Learn how to install vinyl plank flooring in a bathroom that looks like ceramic large format tile. Vinyl plank flooring bathroom installation is an easy process you can do as a beginner installer and only needs a few tools. The flooring is waterproof and will not let any water pass through the seams. With some caulking around the tub this should help prevent any water seepage from normal bathroom usage. It is a floating floor though, so take that into consideration as if the room floods there is nothing to keep it from going over the edges of the flooring. It’s a great looking floor and nice and warm on the feet.

Thanks so much. This video actually address alot of the issues folks are likely to see. Instead of just pretending everything will be picture perfect for install

You make it look so easy, and I was surprised that I can probably get this done. I've been putting it off because my house is 51 years old and needs a lot of work. I grew up in it with my grandparents and they left it to me because I don't have any siblings. I want it to last me so I want to get started.

GREAT VIDEOS from an OLD INSTALLER.
50 years of installing every kind of flooring imaginable and some that were just plum crazy (cross-cut mesquite trees).
Only 1 suggestion. Use expensive knee pads if a person is going to do very many floors. When you hit 70 you will be glad that you protected those knees.

Thank you so much for this video! It made feel confident in NOT wanting to redo my bathroom floor. :)

The orange underlayment is Ditra and it looked correctly installed to me. It’s an uncoupling membrane so it should be easy to get up. It’s job is to keep the shifting OSB from cracking the tile over time.

That was the most thorough video! Every random question I thought of was answered in the next sentence. I especially loved when you showed what you did, but gave verbal options for other things, like what other tools you could use for cutting the channel. Always great, informative videos.

That orange material was something called Ditra made by a company called Schluter. It is an uncoupling membrane eliminating the major cause of cracking and delaminating of the tiled surface.

I have people calling all the time for a tapping block, when they're not needed. Simply use a cut scrap to use as a tapping block. Need to ensure the male and female ends snap together before tapping or you could damage the interlocking edge. Good info and nice video

Great video! If you have an old shop vac you can use it to vacuum any remaining water from the toilet and use a couple paper towels to get the rest.

Just recently installed tiles like this in my laundry and a small bathroom. Super easy as I just later it over existing linoleum. No issues after a couple of months and looks great

I wish every installer was a craftsman like this guy. A lot of folks these days really don't do a good job, are in and out in a hurry, blame your choices or your house for any problems, but still want a million dollars for the job.

As a professional floor installer and who has done remodeling floors in bathrooms that have any wood products as underlayment, the last thing you want on your floor is a product that has multiple seams like tile and floating vinyl floors life expectancy is 10 years . the best products for a bathroom floor is solid inlayed vinyl congoleum with no seams it is made to last 20 + years and a permanent underlayment when you decide to change designs.
Use a floating floor expect to have to replace it in 5 to 10 years .

Not in a million years would I have thought to put down a level to see if the planks will rock and later create problems. Great videos!

I have been watching your videos and realized that you sound and remind me of my other favorite Youtuber, Mark Rober! Starting my bathroom flooring later this week. Thanks

I did recently finished a similar sized bathroom and will be doing a second one soon. I opted to start at the door to better go under the door trim. My rooms had a gap under the drywall so that provided for expansion and I filled with caulk backer and sealed it to the vinyl tiles. Then could use just baseboard at the wall, no quarter-round needed. I took care to seal the floor at all borders just in case to protect from water from an flood event, at least to give time to stop the water and soak it up. Otherwise water under the floor would be an issue.

This video really helped out and will help in the future. I plan on redoing the bathroom floor in my house. The bathroom is rather old and has carpet down which is a no no for me and under it linoleum. This will be my first real big project and the info in the video really helped! If anyone else has any advice on redoing the floor from carpet to vinyl without a lot of experience let me know it would be much appreciated 🤙
