Drone swarm avoids crashing in dense forest using new algorithm

Показать описание
A new system of flying while avoiding obstacles enables a swarm of 10 lightweight drones to fly together without crashing into one another – or the environment.
Drones can compute their location and find a path to follow using a panoply of sensors, which can be expensive and unwieldy. Shrinking down a drone often involves getting rid of key components, impacting its ability to travel safely. But a new method by Chinese researchers reduces the size and hardware requirements of a drone while keeping its computing nous.

"It was really tough to nail down the sound of the motors, but I think we did a good job making them sound like the screams of tortured spirits"

I'm concerned for future soldiers hearing this hellacious ruckus coming their way. Knowing they are doomed.

These automonous drones are designed and made by the team from Zhejiang University, China.

This gave the chills... this flashed back me to 'Minority Report', you know, crawling spiders, flying drones... we're not far off

I expected a speeder bike chase on Endor kind of video, but I guess as a first step it is still great.

I do not want to be a soldier in the future when millions of these roam the battlefield.

Could use these for when I am foraging for mushrooms! Get them outfitted with cameras and smart sensors that will beep at me when they come across the desired musroom!

This is so cool, I can see how this could be applied to map dense forest floors with great detail if the sensors record object locations. The applications this can be adapted to are endless.

Can you imagine swarms like these in a few years after being perfected? Could be incredibly useful in lost people searches or for military attacks. Which version do you want to bet gets fielded first?

one the one hand: great job on the science
on the other hand: oh great, another step closer to a dystopian future

Drone #1: " So when do we attack our human creators and take over this world for our own?"
Drone #2: " We wait until they take these stupid blue lights off us and install guns."

I have seen the future and it is terrifying.

Could be extremely effective in urban warfare. Strap an explosive charge to the drones and let them loose to hunt combatants.

This is a game changer in Guerrilla warfare as well as surveillance ✅

A quarter of this video is covered in thumbnails and ads. Would have been nice to see the end of the video.
