It’s a new year, and a new year means that it’s time for a new financial plan!

As Dennis and I are self-employed, we raised our own monthly salary to $4,459.91/month. Of that, I’ll be investing $2,000/month and spending from the other $2,459.91.

My investment strategy is actually changing this year for the first time since 2021 - I’d been using a robo-advisor, Wealthsimple Invest, to do my investing for me. I’m now switching to a DIY approach, using Wealthsimple Trade, instead. I’ll be investing in an ETF on a monthly basis.

On the spending side of things, I’ve adjusted my budget categories - here’s the overview:
➡️ Rent - $950.00
➡️ Internet - $31.07
➡️ Utilities - $30.00
➡️ Groceries - $300.00
➡️ Restaurants - $150.00
➡️ Coffee Shops - $50.00
➡️ Public Transportation - $50.00
➡️ Massage Therapist - $146.50
➡️ Personal Care - $100.00
➡️ Subscriptions - $12.42
➡️ Other - $339.92

My biggest budget goal is to bring down my ‘eating out’ amount substantially…

What’s your money plan for 2024? Let us know! 👀

When you say self employed are you referring to YouTube videos or do you do something else?

Hi there just a question. Are you allocating money to your rrsp? Or just TFSA? If not, are you able to share why?

Besides financial do you have any other goals? I’m on the same boat as you so I’m looking at other goals

Love it for you Steph! I'm working on fully funding my emergency fund so I can get to a point where all I can do is invest. I am investing right now though. Just out of curiosity, do you save for sinking funds?

Steph awesome plan. Btw tfsa is technically also emergency I’m assuming ? For example if something major occurs and you exhausted the emergency funding, the last resort would be going into tfsa

Why don’t you all share what invest company you use ? Is that bad to share I don’t know?

love your goals. $2000 per month on investing is a lot but even at $3k per month you were putting $1000 per month so you'll be fine.

Is the $150/month restaurant goal ambitious because you plan to eat at lots of restaurants?
