Back to the Seplos, Part I. Testing the new Firmware 0.7 on Seplos BMS V3.0. Fixes everything?

Today, we are going to revisit the #Seplos #BMS V3.0 with the new firmware #update 0.7. I show in all details what to consider when upgrading the firmware and paralleling the BMS afterwards. I also 'clone' all settings from one BMS to the other two, to make them all the same.

The older firmware version had some issues with calculating the SOC when the battery was either full or empty and also didn't show 100%SOC when fully charged. Have these issues been resolved with this new release?
Let's do the extreme test and replace the battery shelf with these three Seplos Polo batteries for a week, so I can really get the feel for the batteries and BMS with this new firmware.

Andy, the SOC calculation was wrong with previous firwmare (but now, you already updated it ^^, it's too late to show the mistake ;) only during discharge. With Cristof48 and myself, we identified the issue, and forced Seplos to update ; now, the SOC calculation is great, but no more feature has been added, you're right.

Hello from California

I’m doing a repurpose of a ford fusion hybrid battery for my solar power bank. Any tips would be great. Love your channel and your knowledge to help others. Cheers my friend
PS I’m 100% off grid living in my RV on a undisclosed location

Oh si la mayoría de baterias en paralelo tienen un límite de corriente de carga algunos en 10amp otros en 15, otros en 20amp por qué???

Nice update! Thanks. I got seplos v3 bms with 2a active balance. It actual work good some limitations.
-It comes with a dedicated switch to turn it off or on
-it also have a connection to the dry contact of the bms to trigger the balance voltage.
The limitation is that the balance voltage is not good not from 3.45v. The good side is that it has a dedicated switch that you can turn on it off. I only use it to balance pack and it will be off until next event I’ve unbalanced pack. Seplos would need to redesign their active balance
I would like you test the active balance too.

After 1, 5 year running the old v2.9, I'm done with seplos. I wanted to upgrtade my 5 packs to the new v3, but there support is so bad, I'll go with the new jk, it can't be more worse.

I have two of the seplos bms v3.0 with the active balancer setup, the v0.7 tracks soc really well now compared to v0.6, it now tracks in line with my lynx shunt, there is still an issue with the reset as you mentioned, this is more to do with the current resolution at the top end. The active balance communication is only a turn on the balancer, it is not communicating or allowing configuration of the active balancer, you either need to put it into standby for 10 hours with the button or the BMS will trigger the dry contact on over voltage alarm, it then needs the preset values to be met to start balancing which is 50ms differential down to 30ms differential then your on the BMS passive balancer. I have bought some neey to try instead.

Sounds like Seplos told everyone who uses their V2 BMS to get lost

I currently have a set of 5 x 100Ah batteries in parallel for EV charging. There are 3 Seplos Polo with bms V3 model V10 and firmware 0.7, one Orient Power with Pace bms, and one Power Quenn with a JK bms (I changed it).
Before the update to 0.7, the SOC calculation was catastrophic, I had a difference of 40% at the end of discharge between Seplos and the other bms. In Charge, the Seplos reached 98.5% very quickly when the others were at around 60%.
Now, with version 0.7 the gap has been reduced, the SOC indication between the JK and the seplos is approximately identical, and the Pace SOC with a difference of around 7%.
At the end of the charge, the Seplos show a cell imbalance of approximately 40 to 50 mv.
Do you know why Seplos quickly abandoned the marketing of Polo-type models? is it because of the pouch cells ?

Andy I do notice the K is up and it’s moving up. Thumbs up 👍 83.6 K now 😊

This is the proof of bad idea of communication...
No communication is better because there is nothing to disconnect...
Information about your system is enough to know what is the voltage of your battery, and what power you are getting in and out...
This means, all this work here is useless...
I don't have any of this issue...
So it is not worthy...
Good for the seplos, but is not necessary...

Hi Andy ! love your channel ! I’m planning to build my own DIY LFP battery soon … What do you think it’s the best choice ? Jk BMS ? or a Seplos BMS with a separate active balancer ? the best quality/price/ beginner proof choice ?

thanks for your work !

My experiance is that the alarm*16 for 30min is still not working. I would really like this feature as it makes it posible to balance the pack a little.
The V0.7 have improved the SOC measureing. On V0.6 the SOC could just suddenly drop from 40 to 0 when it realize that the voltage is too low.

I have also played with the active balancer. Im not impressed. Its relay based, so you can hear the "clicking". The remote "dry contact" from bms did not turn on.
I could only turn it on manually by pressing a switch. Maybe its better with the v0.7 firmware.
Compaired with Neey, its a dinosaour balancer with all the relays 🤣.

Seplos 2A Active Balancer. At US$100 it is too expensive. IF it was truly SMART and connected to the BMS in an intelligent way, where the settings could be accessed/changed via BT. Yes, I could see that being useful. Most of the time, the passive balancing of the BMS is OK, and the active balancer is not needed. If you had correctly top balanced a pack when new, there is a good chance you would not need an active balancer very often, so a power switch on the outside of the battery box would be a good idea. Your cheap balancer solution works fine for me on my V2 BMS's.

Andy this 30min timer only works With a higher voltage. Try 56.8V Pack overvoltage protection and also let all settings as there is pre Set from the factory. Cell ov warn 3.5V cell ovp at 3.65V.
For me this works every Day. I tried first with the 3.45V but this Has Not worked for me.

Hi Andy, but I also have the problem with the new JK BMS that my battery stays at the requested charging voltage the whole time and doesn't go into float mode. The reason is that with an RCV of 55.2V only 55.11V is reached and the inverter does not increase the voltage any further. This means that the trigger for switching to float mode is not triggered. I think it is due to a calibration problem. I tried setting the 55.11V as 55.2V but the next time I charge the voltage is still below 55.2V. Neither JK nor Goodwe have responded to a request so far. The firmware is the latest x.11. Perhaps you can look into the topic of calibration. Or someone from the community knows the problem and has a solution. Best regards Andeas

This whole firmware update process is very user-unfriendly and will only be done by nerds or installers (who never actually do this). This kind of equipment should support fully automated update without any cable shenanigans. 🤷‍♀️
