It is not all about muscles. Women give their views on what they find attractive in a man.

Reporter Cathal O’Shannon asks young women about the physical attributes that they find attractive in men.

According to those interviewed, both physical attributes and personality contribute to the attractiveness of a man.

"I don’t like a man who’s too preoccupied with his own masculinity."

Musical talents also featured in the list of desirable characteristics.

"I’m very attracted to men who are able to sing and play music."

One woman says she like a well-proportioned man in terms of height and build.

"I find those muscular men rather revolting to look at."

Another woman reinforces this view,

"...Apollo type specimens of humanity which I find rather disgusting looking."

This episode of ‘Newsbeat’ was broadcast on 27 June 1967. The reporter is Cathal O’Shannon.

I love how they expressed themselves without fear of making an internet mob angry.

I'm shocked at how drastically our articulation of language has fallen in just a few generations.
I appreciated how they could actually describe their thoughts, compared to today's efforts of description

It’s actually kind of wonderful hearing so many people stressing the importance of personality for attraction

"A bit like you."

*immediately stops recording*

Pure coincidence, I'm sure ;)

Remember when people could truly consider a question and say how they feel in a way that could easily be understood? Yeah, I miss that.

They're so calm and deliberate. No twitching, stuttering, or rambling

The woman at 1:52 is HILARIOUS. She starts her response by saying "physical attributes don't matter" and then goes onto list extremely specific physical expectations lol.

Impressed with how articulate and eloquent these young Irish women were. I suspect reading was a big factor - nearly everyone read books back then and their command of the spoken English language was probably superior to what we hear today in everyday conversation.

I'm rather struck by the accents, because you really don't hear that sort of accent much in 2022. They're very anglicised, much more neutral than anything I've heard in years. My folks spoke like this, as did their parents, and they came from Rialto, which is odd. I think I speak the same way, but more like a sort of mid Atlantic type of thing, only more noticeably Irish
