Iceland's Lava Tunnel & Power Plant | Volcanic Activity and How it Shapes the Country

Ever wonder how Iceland harnesses the magnificent energy of hot water to power their country? Or how Reykjavik keeps its streets warm even in the middle of a snowstorm? Or maybe you've heard that water in Iceland smells eggy and wonder if it's safe to drink. Come with us as we explore all of these questions on an educational adventure of geothermal activity!

We first explore one of Iceland's must-see underground wonders, the Lava Tunnel. Located about 30 minutes from Reykjavik, the Lava Tunnel seems to be in the middle of nowhere. But slip behind a hidden door in the rocks and you enter a whole new world. Inside the tunnel we learn about the ancient lava flows that have shaped Iceland throughout its existence.

After our experience in the enchanted cave, we warm up in one of Iceland's main geothermal power plants, Hellisheiði. The Hellisheiði plant offers what it calls the "On Power Geothermal Exhibition" where guests can learn about the abundant hot water thousands of feet below Iceland's surface. This hot water is used to heat homes throughout Iceland, heat streets and to generate electricity. Did you know that Iceland draws 100% of its power from renewable resources? The first country on the planet to do so!

Big thanks to our producing partners for this trip to Iceland, Community Links International. Thanks Jim!

Sincerely,
The Ryans

Hey The Ryan Fam!!! YAY!!! Love seeing some "family" out adventuring, and we love that you guys are in Iceland. We want to visit there someday!! That is so amazing that the Geothermal energy does a big bulk of the heating!! That's crazy that hot water is straight from the ground!! The Lava tubes are amazing to see, and 5200 years.. it's no joke! The way people have adapted to enjoy living in such a unique environment is amazing!! That was a fabulous tour and we think those Nordic countries are so far ahead of their time with many aspects of living and society!! Thanks for taking us with you and we look forward to seeing you again!! Much love and stay safe and HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!! <3

Hi Bobby and Tyler (sp?)
Eww oh no eggy water! That's a big bag of nopes for me.
I've always been fascinated with geothermal energy so this was neat to watch. What a juxtaposition it was seeing you going into that cave from the frozen white tundra to seeing moss growing on the walls.
Ooh swanky snacks at the power plant!
Great vlogs guys ♥

I couldn't believe all the stuff you get to see there.
They dig into the hottest part of the hot water is brilliant, just stay safe and DON'T do anything I would 😂

One of my daughters went to Iceland a couple of years ago now, and she had a great time.. The only downside to her trip was just how expensive everything was there, and she said it was the most expensive place she had ever visited, but she said she would like to go again.. Excellent video my friends, and i like your channel too, and i just hit that most important button... Carl
