The Image: Despite its never ending accolades, I find it very hard to like this documentary much - nor understand why people think it one of the best docus ever made.

Apart from anything else, Robert Crumb comes across as an amazingly unpleasant fellow - consistently misogynistic, racist (in the 60s, anyway) and unceasingly superior to other people - such as those who dare to wear branded clothing etc.

Anyway - I do have a treasured first edition of a short story booklet he illustrated for 'Bring Me your Love' by Raymond Carver (which my erstwhile friend, Chris, gave me many years ago) - so Crumb's genius as an illustrator is undeniable - even if many images are not nice at all.

Anyway, to the matter in hand - I did like this little interlude offered towards the end of the film when the whole Crumb family have decided to relocate to France to avoid their daughter being infected by evils of anti-intellectual America,
