Sometimes, the "Lash", is dictated by Individual Fishery Rules!! - Usually as a Minimum/shortest allowed.

Tough one to cover off all venues and eventualities in one video on this subject. This was clearly aimed at commercial fisheries but it's a different kettle of fish on rivers and canals where I'd use a minimum of 2ft lash even up to 8ft on rivers, then there's long whip to hand fishing!!! I think super short lashes are more suited to carp fishing, silvers can bump themselves off against the elastic as they bite so fast and I wouldn't ever back shot with only 6" lash - kind of pointless, just not enough buffer of line there for it to be effective, even 18" is pushing it with back shot IMO, I'd say 2ft lash minimum when using backshot.
