With my beardie, I made a clicky noise when I put my hand in the tank. Just a little soft noise. I also made the noise when I fed him. Over time I noticed that he would come out of his "frozen prey" stance when I made the noise. He knows it means it is ok. Also reading out loud next to the tank, not looking at him seemed to help.

Mine never acts terrified no running or barking, but he will not let me pick him up. I went out of town for two weeks and had a pet sitter there (so he was fed and not alone) and when I came back he heard my voice and ran to the glass and so I just decided to try to stick my hand in and give me treats and pet him since he seemed excited and to my absolute shock he ran up on my hand! It happened two nights in a row then never again lol. At least I know he loves me now lol

Got my Leo a few month ago, he is absolutly tame from the very first moment. most of the time I hold my hand in his home, he crawls on it and love it. he also respond a little bit to his name - or notice, that I talk with him

I find understanding their body language can help with gaining their trust. It'll tell you when it's best to leave them alone and when you can have a small interaction with them.

Happy I finally watched this! I rescued an elderly male leopard gecko that had never been handled and I’ve been taking it slow as afraid losing its tail this late in it’s life could be critical. Will try some of these ideas though. Thanks Elle!

I got a new leo a few months ago, and he still doesn't like me much. He doesn't run away, but has intentionally bit me a few times 😔

I finally got to hold him last night, and he was calm for a bit. But then he tried to run off, and got super stressed and freaked out when I wouldn't let him. Poor guy even lifted his tail at me 😢

Mine like me just fine, I put my hand in the tank in front of their faces they test by licking, I don't touch them then they usually(!) climb on my hand. This works for most any animal even the human breed. Happy you see you back and looking so much better
