According to specs and early reviewers, canon is maybe the best camera for photographers in the market. For videographers who want 8K video there are other 8K cameras with smaller sensors that don't overheat after 20 minutes. For videographers that are satisfied with 4K at 30 fps the Canon R5 is fine.
Certainly the 8K video isn't the strong feature of the Canon R5.
The real problem isn't the 20 minutes limitation but the very slow recovery, cooling of the camera.
However as far as I know the R5 is the first full frame camera with no crop 8K video which give shallow depth of field with wider bright lenses. Something that other 8K video cameras can't offer. So the purchase of two or three Canon R5 can solve the problem. The first Canon R5 will shoot 8K video while the remaining camera will be left cooling. Is that affordable? Is it convenient? Certainly not but its a solution. An expensive solution.
But an 8K video production with 8K high quality raw video, one way or another isn't something affordable or fast.

The 30 minute record limit even for 1080p is the deal breaker for me. I'd love to have either the R5 or the R6 and I've been saving for them, but I need longer than 30 minutes and shouldn't have to attach an Atomos to it to exceed that limit. I'd rather not go with Sony, but their a6600 or a7III looks like a better setup for my needs.

@canonusa - include ALL-I in video via a firmware update. Why it was left out is beyond my understanding. The DIGIC X processor is more than capable to handle it. Even the Eos R had it. This is a deal breaker for so many people at this point. Please include All-I and DCI 4k on the R6
