iPhone 12 extreme water test

The iPhone 12 is water resistant. But just how much water can it actually take? We dunked a brand-new iPhone 12 underwater in Lake Tahoe, California, to test out the IP68 rating and go even deeper than we've ever tested a phone before.

An uncle of mine accidentally dropped his iPhone 11 Pro in a river on Amazon Rainforest and he cannot recover it that day because water levels were too high (about 6 meters), so a month later when the water levels dropped to 2 meter, he went to the spot where the phone fell, found the phone buried in the mud under the river and recovered it. The phone was perfectly functional with no other issues than the muffleld speakers sound.

It’s booting into diagnostics because it thinks the volume buttons are being pressed. Internal liquid damage for sure

YouTube will recommend this 10 years into the future when iPhone 17 xs is out

Ironic how this video was flanked by an article of Apple being fined for their water resistance claims.

It's important to note that the water rating is applicable when considering a BRAND new phone. As you use your phone over the course of its life, all of the screws/glue/etc that hold your phone together will loosen or deteriorate over time, so don't go thinking that your water rating will remain the same for the life of your phone.

"Waterproof" lawsuits hit Apple.

Technically since it still "Worked" after the second extreme test you can't prove that it would work fine after the first one.

Correction: IP68 means protected from contact with harmful dust (6) and waterressistant (8) down to atleast 1, 5 meters (or more) up to 30 minutes (or more). Manufactures can however add additional proofing and testing to reach greater numbers than the minimum requirements.
And all manufactures have a safety margin on their ratings. And maybe they did not even bother to test it higher than the rated numbers. So I don't see the "mystery" here. I did expect everything that happened to happen. And the water is not "very very" cold.. Just "normal cold". It's well within normal temps so it will not have any impact on the test at all.
And I bet it works better when you see the moist on the inside of the camera lenses has gone away. It's most likely just a little moist behind the volume buttons so the phone thinks they are pressed.

Apple says water resistant not water proof. End of story.

I would love to see a video where you take it to the claimed depth. After testing, take it home and see if the camera fogs and the phone goes into diagnostic mode. THEN try for deeper depths. You can’t truly say that the phone was fine at 6 meters without doing this. It was also still working at 20 meters. It only failed when you took it home. (Edited: spelling)

They should have had three phones. One to do only stay submerged for 20 minutes to test how faithful their "actual" claims are. The second to test just how long the phone "actually" could last in that sort of environment. And the third as a test to see how deep the phone can go before completely breaking all together.

I have taken a lot of underwater videos ranging from surface to 15 feet deep in salt and fresh water with my iPhone 12 Pro and had no issues whatsoever.

All good until you accidently drop it into a pool and the phone pancakes.

The timing of the video’s release is so suspect. Apple just got fined in Italy for misleading water resistant claims.

That phone probably has screen damage now or internal damages right now. Water damage doesn't immediately destroy the inside of your phone, it takes time.

to fix the speaker you gotta play the 165Hz test tone on max volume for a few mins
