As soon as I saw this, I immediately thought “I’ll wait for Nicks advice. “

By the way, I just want to thank you for all of your advice. Started my Etsy store in March as a wreath maker. I took your advice to niche down and sell products to wreath makers instead of general public. It has made all the difference I now make wreath attachments, and have more orders than I can handle. Raising my prices to slow things down a bit. My brand is catching on throughout the WM community now. Thanks for all your help.

It's made to just push sellers to get bigger sales to make more %%% for Etsy. Not joining will not make any bad effect. We should better focus to change photos in listings because I see a LOT of items with cut photos which made them unreadable. Just 500 listings to edit, RIP those who got 4k+ listings.

When I saw it this morning I just laughed. This is just another form of off-site marketing with sellers doing the work. I would like to know those who do opt in, can they opt out? This is also a way for Etsy saying we made so much profit from sales when the "profit" is just coming from the seller's additional fees. Don't be fooled people, don't so etsy's marketing for them you are already paying them for the privilege.

I think you are right, it's all for etsy's benefit. I saw it and thought why not join, then I remembered that I don't like trying to repost links it Social Media, I don't think I get any sales from Social Media so I'd rather skip it, waiting is good advice.

I am a new seller just a couple months in, 300 listings and 45 sales…first off, love your channel. (As a Scouser in the US)…would love to connect for a consult at some point…as a growing store I see limited befit until I am more established. One thing I am learning….it’s an old saying….”if the product is free then you are the Product”

I’m gonna wait….this is all for Etsy.

So I signed up for it. Had shared a listing link with a friend who was buying a custom shirt. This link wasn't through social media- I sent it via text and email. It was over $100 off two listings and I did get about $4ish back.

Thank you for once again being the voice of calm and reason. If I was established I would be looking into it.

I do see an added benefit to this as well; I put the link to one product on my webpage. If someone clicks on that and buys, I will see a credit for that sale, BUT because of that credit I will also know EXACTLY where that sale was generated since I only used it on my webpage. Useful for analytics. Not being an SEO expert I really have no way of knowing how well my links are performing, but this should help.

Hi Nick....After listening to this, I am just going to 'wait n see'. I don't use any social media to 'drive traffic' to my store anyway. I'm just starting out and prefer to learn more first ( photos, wording, ..the basics). For those who have great ambitions for their shops and are looking for marked growth, fine....just not for me :).

Thanks Nick for your advice. As a somewhat new store I will wait and see what happens

I'm giving it a try in one of my shops, here's why
- My shop has been on Etsy since 2011
- I have close to 12k sales
- My primary goal with it is to incorporate it into Team link sharing, not to benefit my own shop as an individual thing, but via networking. With team link sharing the reach goes much further, so we can not only cross promote but can potentially save each other money. (I'm from the team era clearly)

I'm giving it a trial period for one quarter. If I don't see or hear about it making a difference, or doing what I think it could do being used this way, then I'll opt out.

I'll let you know what happens :) I'm not using it in my smaller very niche shops for exactly the reasons you say.

Saw that in Etsy yesterday. Glad you cleared it up.

I don’t have a website but am well established on Etsy. I do lots of email marketing to long standing customers who mostly purchase through my email links. This program is working so far. I am concerned about the offsite ads since I cannot opt out. But at this point I figure it can’t hurt me. We shall see. I’ve always driven sales anyway so may as well pay less than more. Thanks for your insights.

I have decided to wait on this because of a lot of the reasons you stated. If you don't know much about social media marketing and you try it anyway, this could really hurt your store.

Thanks for your info! I have to admit I didn't think about it much and only saw the benefits at first and I agreed to it but I'm glad that I got a little bit of context from you . I've got a little over 6000 sales so I hope it's fine. You mentioned that you'd rather use social media to direct traffic to your own website, do you happen to have tips or videos for that as well? Because that's something I've been thinking about recently as the next step for my business and I don't really know which platform I should use (Shopify or Pattern).

Hi Nick, Love the haircut! I am just starting a POD business with personalized items. I understand how to make a good complete listing in successful niches (thanks to my smarts and you!). If I list 1 a day I will not have much to sell for this Q4. Hate to miss out on that spike. Can I make many good listings to have a larger inventory for this Q4 and then start the right way with a new shop in Q1? If I start a new shop Q1 then I can have a solid slow and steady inventory listing build (like you recommend) and perhaps understand some of my bestsellers by next Q4. OK idea or how do you recommend I take advantage of this Q4? Thanks in advance!

I just stumbled on to you... I was hunting around in Etsy forums trying to find out if the Share and Save ads would count as off-site ads. I've been forced into them because I had a good 12 months. Now as you know, I cannot opt out. Then I wondered a bit more and thought why would I send traffic to Etsy when I have my own website...? It sucks running two sites, Etsy and my own... but I keep the Etsy shop going for the few sales I do get as they are usually higher dollar buyers there. Those off-site ads are killing me with the small dollar item sales, I had to raise all the prices which makes me less competitive with the rest of same product sellers. I've really grown to hate Etsy since they went public. You are right it's all about them and not about us, ever. Thank you! I've subscribed and hit the bell.

Are YOU going to use Etsy Share & Save? Tell me your thoughts! 😀

you can solve that issue of etsy cancelling your 4% by redirecting the people, for instance to your listing o section o n etsy by telling them that they have to go there ("link in bio" sort of way).
