How to reset Notepad to default settings on Windows 10

The humble, but very useful Notepad is a built-in basic text editor included in the Windows operating system, which is also used to save certain file formats like Registry files, Batch files, Script files, NFO, DIZ files, etc. Over a period of time, we often customize its settings to suit our requirements.

We might change its default font, its style and size, the window position, word wrap, and status bar settings, etc. While you can revert each one back, if you want to reset all Notepad settings to default values, then this post shows you how to do it.

With respect, editing the registry seems unnecessary. I suggest an alternative option is to look under the Format menu when Notepad is open, and make the following changes:
Font: Consolas; Font Style: Regular; Size 11 point.

Do not EVER edit your registry unless it's absolutely necessary.

In the case of Notepad++, IT IS NOT NECESSARY!!!

1. If Notepad++ shows up in Add or Remove Programs, simply uninstall it, download the latest copy, and reinstall it.

2. If Notepad++ doesn't show up in Add or Remove Programs, then it was installed as a stand-alone. Just delete it, download the latest copy, and reinstall it as a standalone, or, if you prefer, as an installed program.

Finally, calling Notepad++ a "basic text editor" is like calling the $18.7 million Bugatti La Voiture Noire a "basic road vehicle." Yes, it is a text editor, not a word processor. Aside from that, there is absolutely NOTHING about Notepad++ that's "basic, " except for its generous price of $0. THANK YOU, Notepad++ people!
