Being polite and understanding and never be disrespectful are great recommendations for not just the airport, but pretty much everywhere- hotels, inside the plane, waiting at a train station etc.

I fly out of MSP (Minneapolis/StPaul). It's a really fun place. I like to attive early, check my large bag so I can avoid TSA hassles & go almost "hands free." Then I can shop, eat at a variety of great places & still have plenty of time to get to the gate. MSP is also now working on improving the experience for the disabled.

I just had my first flight. I arrived early but it worked out greatly. The day went perfectly.

I also put inside my luggage a paper with my name, address and contact info as well of the name of the hotel, address and phone number. This helps insure I can be contacted if my outside luggage tags go missing.

I think these are all common sense but I still liked going through the whole video just to keep things freshly in mind for my trip from Scotland to Japan next week.

I have never missed a flight, but there was one time when I almost did, and I honestly don't think it was my fault. They changed the gate not once, but twice. NO announcement was made about it, but they did change it on the lighted overhead sign. Fortunately, I was paying attention and ran back and forth the length of the airport a couple of times and did not miss the flight. It was Zurich to Barcelona, and another thing about it was that my ticket was from Iberia, I had to check in through Swissport, and I flew aboard a Vueling plane. I mean how much crap do they expect the passenger to keep track of and then still say it is all the passenger's fault if not at the right gate at the right time?

Great tips- also buy a hand held weight monitor so you can weigh your luggage in the hotel/home and balance them before going to the airport

Don’t forget luggage straps to secure the checked luggage from opening accidentally. The luggage zipper is not very secured.

Make sure that your charger will work with different voltage electricity. That can be very annoying.

I would much rather be at the airport four to five hours earlier for an international flight. That way I can relax, browse around, shop, eat, and be relaxed before the flight. Beats the hell out of being stressed, rushed, nervous, and anxious if I arrived just within the prescribed amount of time for me at the airport. You don't know what could happen in a day--lots of people flying that day, issues with your carry on, traffic on the way, etc.

To arrive in time is obvious. But when airlines sell you tickets with connecting flights that has very little time for you to get through security and passport control it makes you wonder why they themself don't know better and put a person in that situation where you have to run only to miss your connection and then have to sit and wait for another flight for 16 hours. Is that reasonable? It happens a lot.

If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late!

Security staff don’t CARE about your unattended carry-on personal item bags if you need a patdown because of implants or knee replacements, trust me. If this situation occurs, make sure you have an ALERT person in your party go ahead of you in line to retrieve your valuables on the belt after they have been scanned or they will just be sitting out there for all the world to swipe! This has happened to me numerous times as my son and husband are distracted, fiddling with putting back on their shoes and belts.

One’s passport and personal item bag must be retrieved from the scanner by somebody else in your family if you get sidelined for a patdown- PLAN AHEAD for this eventuality as TSA don’t care if your stuff gets stolen.
