Alabama, hey neighbor. A few years back I left town for a week and the AC unit in my apartment just died. I’d say it was about a five day stretch and when I came back EVERYTHING was like this. I lost a LOT of belongings and had to move in with a friend for a few weeks for them to gut most of the wooden cabinets and carpet.

They didn’t plan on taking out the carpet originally until I said I’d make sure everyone in the complex knew they were cutting corners. This was when they were steadily pricing out people like me in order to convert the condos into timeshares, essentially. They tried to hold me liable, but I ended up not even having to fight them legally (I would have won but they were betting on my not being able to afford the hassle and they were correct, I couldn’t have) because I documented everything so thoroughly with pictures and video. That included the “clean up” process…I was happy to leave as soon as my lease was up, but can you imagine the impact that would have had on the health of the next owner or renter?
