3 Day Solo Winter Snow Camp - Bushcraft, Canvas Tent, Woodstove, Bowdrill

Показать описание
On this adventure I head out for a solo winter camping trip in the snow. I setup the small canvas tent and woodstove, make a bushcraft fire reflector and make this camp my home for 3 days. On the second day a snow storm arrived from the east, bringing with it ice rain and blizzard like conditions. I cook up food on the woodstove and campfire to keep me warm. I also attempt a primitive bowdrill in a snowstorm. Thanks for joining me on the adventure - Mike

When you go far into the forest, when your phone is silent, it does not catch the signal, and the sleeping bag on the foam replaces your favorite bed! When your dinner is boiling in a black pot on a hot fire, and all your clothes are soaked through with smoke. You forget about all your problems, they simply do not exist, there is you and the silence of the forest! The silence from which is muffling. Your senses sharpen as you hear the wind, the rustle of grass, and leaves. The creaking of the trunks. At this moment, you feel that you are alive, you are alive now, you listen to your breath, your heart, Nothing can replace these feelings. You are cleansed of all that weighed on you yesterday. Just you and nature. And you're on your own. You're alive now, and that's all that matters. For this we go to the forest. To experience it, over and over again. Those who have experienced it will understand. Those who have not experienced it, still have everything ahead of them. Thank you for giving me this feeling. Thank you for making such content that attracts people to put on a backpack and go to wander along the forest path, your work makes people really happy. 👍My channel on You Tube is just starting to take shape. If you don't mind, please put a few likes and a couple of short comments.

That’s what I love about you, Mike. Your determination and never give up attitude encourages me to keep trying, no matter how ridiculous my goal may appear to be. See you in the snowfields!

Hey Mike!
I've been watching and dropping the occasional comment for well over a year now - usually praising the leaps and bounds you take in production levels!
Something I've neglected to say is just how much your videos help me, personally. I experience fairly decent anxiety that leads to depression. Watching your videos really helps. Not only are you a lovely chap with a warm and positive energy, you remind me of how healing it is to be in the wilderness. Swinging a sharp axe is better than any medication! Your videos capture the spirit of outdoors in a way that allows us, as viewers, to connect with it. That takes a special talent, and love and respect for the outdoors on your part.
Thank you, Mike.
Love to yourself, Graham, Jaxx, the Mrs, and all the fam!

Great job Mike. You are the only YouTuber I know of that I can watch 23 minutes of video with no music or talking and be totally entertained. You and your dad have inspired me to build a pallet wood cabin. My son is helping me with it and the time together is great! Thank you so much for the inspiration. I'm putting the build up on YouTube as I do it, If you get time to watch it I would appreciate any advice you would have.

I really enjoyed watching and listening to you. It's like having a conversation with a mate so it's dead relaxed and no pretentiousness. Well done, stay true to who you are because that's why it works.

Loved it mate…and watched it to the end!

I have been ploughing through your videos over the last couple of weeks, one of my favourite channels on YouTube!

Hopefully in 2023 they are more of these 3 day excursions in the wilderness 👌🏻

Good trick for better insulation, while still allowing ventilation for gas build up, is to pile leaves along the outside bottom of the tent, effectively "sealing" the tent base. The leaves will act as a barrier against wind and snow, while not blocking the transfer of fresh air. This will allow a smaller fire to maintain in the stove.

American Plains Indians, who used portable housing (the ubiquitous TeePee), piled dirt or sand around the base to fully seal off weather. An inner liner kept an open space between the tent wall, and the living area, creating a draft effect that kept stale air and smoke rising to the open vent in the top of structure. Fresh air was controlled by how open the access flap was kept. A small fire pit in the center radiated heat to keep the TeePee warm, and also created the upward draft that kept the inner area smoke free.

The fire reflector is such a helpful implement that I would actually build a 3-sided one, with the two sides at a wide angle. Could make a big difference if you wanted to be outside more and get some heat from a bigger fire.

This makes me happy, thanks for taking the time to make these quality
videos. It’s honestly inspired me to build a little cabin in my nearby
forrest to give me an escape from the chaos that is school right now.

The author deserves special respect. I watched the movie in one breath. This is motivation for me. I will definitely do something similar...

I never had much success with a bow drill over my years of (summer) camping. Few of the many who have tried have found the patience and the skill and the fiddly circumstances necessary to make a lasting ember. Cold and damp make it that much more difficult to raise wood dust temperature by friction. That is just one of the ways in which this has been a great 'teaching' video. I am impressed and surprised by the serious shelter those two ponchos provide in cold conditions. The G stove is so well designed and sturdy that it is truly photogenic. Thanks for showcasing the heating and cooking capabilities of the small-sized stove. In that regard, the egg-cooking demonstration on the third morning was absolutely necessary. The pan you used also deserves a 'shout out' for the eggs not sticking or burning.

Great move posting the attempts that do not work. It shows that it's a practice and even you are still working on it. I think it is mostly about enjoying the attempts and the process.

First video I’ve seen without those long shots that require multiple trips to and fro to set up and retrieve the camera. Bravo for not wasting time and energy

I didn't realize England was so mild, makes me jealous being in Canada with our nonstop snow once winter hits

I always loved being outdoors when I was young but I am older now, disabled and housebound but I can still live vicariously through your videos. Many thanks and I hope you continue.

This was lovely to watch! A few quick tip from Northern Norway: Eat more! Your body burns a ton of calories to keep you warm. You'd probably be less cold and tired if you did :) And when you wake up with snow on your canvas, beat it off (from the inside) before firing up the stove. When you leave the snow on the canvas and heat it up, it melts in large quantities and seeps into the fabric as it runs down. When you beat it off first, it can' melt and make your canvas wet (for then to be dried by the fire) because it's on the ground already! :D

I like your character, easy going, willing to say your still in a learning curve on something. No like a lot of channels on here with that ego I know it all. I enjoy your channel and well keep watching it. Keep up the good work.
