How Inevitable is Similarity: Evolutionary Determinism vs Historical Contingency

This video discusses the debate between determinism and contingency. Unlike the last video, it doesn't really talk about creationism or psuedoscience. The next video should be on elephant phylogeny, and I will discuss more creationist stuff in that!

This is a very well produced, and well researched video.

This was very informative. I've heard about historical contingency before but the concept of determinism was new for me. Evolution is a relatively simple concept but when someone tries to understand it more deeply it starts to become fairly nuanced.

My favorite example is Carcinisation. It just think it’s hilarious that a bunch of species 400 mil years ago were like oh no we are entering a period of mass extinction how ever will we survive? Crab 🦀 🦀 🦀

This is a fantastic video and more importantly, quite easy to understand as long as you have a base level of knowledge on the topic. You are very good as an educator

I really liked this video and I personally really like this type of content and think there should be more channels like this

Really enjoyed that video!!! Great content! I always wondered how convergent evolution happened, and the theories behind it. I would be nice to see a book or some scifi of the interactions between humans and the second sentient species on earth (if we're in fact the first) not that i can write a novel for the life of me

Good video! I stumbled on here because someone made a meme about carcinisation and I thought, "hey, I wonder if anyone's done a detailed youtube video about that." I believe I will check out Prof. Losos' book some time.
