Waited for your review on this show 😀 I didn’t even notice Imogene’s mom and the detective were the same person 😅
Is she the victor sams then? That would be wild 😂

I haven't reflected much on the show as I'm watching it, but it just occurred to me that the whole "imogene is the only suspect" setup was really not utilized very much at all. It's one of those things where you imagine it would be a device for dramatic tension, but you sort of just forget about that pressure pretty quickly and it's only brought up like one other time and it's pretty much immediately dismissed. The rest of the show is entertaining enough that it doesn't feel like we're missing out, but it feels like an underdeveloped idea where probably they could have found some other way to kick off the show.

OMG... did not know it was the same actor playing the mom. Now I have more question... so glad I watch this thanks

Wait! There's a "Nora Scott" character listed in the IMDB credits for this show, with actress Delores Drake listed as playing Nora. I assumed "Nora Scott" is the name of Imogene's mother, not Kira. Did I miss something? Whatever.

Assuming your theory is correct that "Kira" (Nora) Scott is alive and is also the (fake) Interpol Agent Hilde Eriksen, it fits neatly with Lawrence being Imogene's father. The mother would be willing to leave her young daughter--if she were being raised by her biological father.

I did notice all the twin references, as well as the "false face" imagery (the house morphs into a doll house; the sky into a swimming pool; the outdoor tropic beach background into a wall painting)--and wondered where it was leading us.

My gut tells me that Lawrence and Imogene's mother, Kira or Nora, are jointly "Viktor Sams." I think they have been draining Collier Mills for years--amassing money for themselves. Plus, they could be funding humanitarian activities/networks like what Jules did for the Ukrainians.

Lawrence also seems to despise/want-to-wreck the Collier family: Katherine who is unfaithful; Tripp who is worthless; and Anna, who is a Shark--and possesses all of the family's worst faults (she is ruthless & even cheats on her wife). That's explains Lawrence's final coup de grâce to his family--selling out the company to the Chuns...and denying Anna the CEO position.

Bottom line: I believe the over-arching theme of this mystery series is the Decadence and Corruption of the Wealthy. We see it with the Wallace Stevens quote, Winnie's tantrum at the rich, Sunil's conflict between money (banker) and love of culture & the arts (just like Wallace Stevens), and even Danny/Keith's comeback/put-down of Imogene in the tent. The tag line of this series could be: "The Wealthy are Crass and Deserve to be Humiliated."

There is one major possible suspect you didn't discuss and also one big clue. The suspect is Rufus. The clue is the security footage he supposedly removed.

As far as I can tell, we still have not seen the footage that he cut out of the security feed, and I think that is significant. Although he says he removed it to protect Imogene, I think it's just as likely he cut the footage out because it shows him entering and leaving the room when he killed his supposed friend and partner Danny. What other reason can there be for them not to show us the footage? As to why he did it, one possible theory is that he has never really been a great detective and that Danny did all the work and deducting for him. Perhaps Danny got tired of this and threatened to go public with the information that it was actually he who solved all of Rufus' cases and perhaps even wrote his book.

The show has referred to Rufus as a washed-up detective, but what if he was never great to begin with? May explain why he couldn't solve the murder of Imogene's mom. There's also the fact that Danny's journal was stolen. Why? Is it because Danny revealed in the journal that Rufus is a fake and he (Danny) is the genuine detective?

Still not sure how the murder of Imogene's mother fits in with all this or who that killer was - perhaps Rufus will eventually solve this and get some redemption. The idea that Imogen'es mother is actually the Interpol agent is fascinating, but there is no way Imogene would not recognize her. In fact, several people, including Anna, her parents and the lawyer, would all know and remember her. If the show is going to pretend that the agent could fool that many people, then that will be a major letdown. So I'm not sure how the mom fits in with everything. But I do think Rufus as the killer is a feasible scenario, and I think it would be a fitting and great conclusion if Imogene, the student, figures this all out and reveals this at the very end of the series.

Keep in mind that this is being compared to classic Agatha Christie mysteries like Death on the Nile or Evil Under the Sun. But Christie wrote at least three very well know mysteries (and probably some lesser known ones as well) where the detective investigating the case turns out to the murderer, so this will fit right in with that.

Omg I missed the twins detail and I didn't think of the fake death scenario. If so then what about the supposed killer/ puppeteer Viktor Sams.

I thought Episode 5 was a little weak for a penultimate episide (it's only six parts right?) but my theory from the time I learned Keith's true identity I've been leaning toward it's all been a setup and he's not really dead. The death was staged to put everyone on edge and draw out the truth. I didn't notice the part about Imogene's mother and the agent being the same actress (I never look up IMDB credits in mysteries until the end as to not reveal any hidden characters) but learning this does sort of support the theory because she could also be in on it to try to find the truth (about who tried to kill her) or she is Victor Sams and learning of the "death" was the perfect opportunity to board the ship posing as an interpol agent (taking the bait) and take care of loose ends "himself" all the while Rufus being one step ahead and setting a trap to catch her (Victor Sams).

Did anyone else find it weird when Imogene said something about Jules to Sunil and he gave her blank face until she said, "Your head of security"? As if he didn't know the guy by that name? I thought it would be explained later but now we've supposedly seen Jules' whole story and supposedly Sunil has always known him by that name.

This isn't a post about speculation. Always appreciate these videos and comments. But here is a question, that perhaps is for another forum: When I look up the locations of where this was filmed, it says Vancouver and the interiors on the Queen Mary. And there had to be lots filmed using virtual production (like the scenes on the deck). But what about the scenes in Malta. That had to be on location. That couldn't be in a studio with virtual production. or could they?

The clue was already in the beginning of each episodes 😌

I think Victor Sams is Imogen's father

so wait, if theyre truly the same person then is it that far fetched to say shes "viktor sam"? but yeah, if its all to bring down this family then she just sacrificed her daughter to do it for decades and also left her in their custody too?

Lots of secrets to be revealed, but not as fun as Only Murders

I really think the show had too many suspects, they shouldn’t have included the Chens at all, or the Reverend, or anyone else but the Colliers!

its very messy now - not smart - just messy (turning me off). The thing I can't reconcile is the switch in clothing many characters have. Danny/Keith wears red shorts with is coconut themed short early but is killed wearing grey shorts. Imogene changes after the security room tryst. Teddy's cloths changes after the morning staff meeting or am I getting the timelines screwed up. Oh the ship is called the Varuna. A Hindu god of oceans, Sky and Water but also paired with Mitra to be the lord of justice and truth. An all seeing Lord - those cameras are all seeing. Sunil refurbished the Ship. He is running a blackmail operations - as a former Banker he has the background to target the wealthy etc.,
