imagine attending the book launch of a new author and getting ABSOLUTELY ROASTED for no discernible reason

“That didn’t go great” is uh, quite the understatement

Imagine being one of those two people now and having one of the best ice breaker conversation starters for all time cause of that one time John Green called you deeply uninteresting 😂😂😂😂

Imagine you go to a book reading, presumably for a book you like or are excited about, and the author calls you deeply uninteresting

That's a crazy coincidence. Like, what are the chances that your passage was so specific to your situation 😭

In my opinion, your pre-selected passage was absolutely perfect. If I had been in the audience I would have thought it to be intensely funny.

It's wild to me that Looking For Alaska isn't his most famous book. I read it as a freshman circa 2007, at Exactly The Right Time In My Life for it to resonate immensely. It was one of the most important books for me as a teenager, possibly the most important.

I've read his other works, and they're lovely, but Alaska had always been The Book (at least for me)- although, as a much older person, the Auld Lang Syne chapter of The Anthropocene Reviewed has touched me more deeply than anything I've read since my teens.

UGH, JOHN GREEN. OUT HERE MAKING ME TEARY ALMOST TWO DECADES STRONG.

There'd hardly be a story to tell had it gone well, but instead it's a great one

I would've died with laughter if you read that passage in front of me and one other person 😂😂😂😂😂 thats an amazing story and no way they didn't think you did that on purpose 😂

I remember going to your book signing and I kept repeating the question I wanted to ask you in my head while waiting in line and I still messed it up when I got to the front so it didn't go great for me either. You did much better!!

As an aspiring author, this is oddly comforting

That sounds terrifying... it's hilarious, but certainly i wouldn't want to experience it myself lol

On the positive side, at least there were only two people who got offended

From 2 people in Chicago to Town Hall in NYC (Where I was lucky enough to attend the TATWD tour), what a change time can make!

If a movie were made about this man's life, this would have to be a scene. 😂

If I was one of those two people I'd have howled 😂😂😂

For the record, when you visited my school on what I think was the book tour for Katherines, we had more than six people to muster up for your visit. Don’t sell yourself too short 😉

I'm rereading the Anthropocene and listened to John tell this story YESTERDAY.

When I read the passage about your first reading in the anthropocene reviewed, I laughed out loud. Honestly, situations unintended like these are probably where my fear of public speaking comes from.

This short was deeply entertaining on so many levels.
