Yes, I still have my Roland Octapad II, have it since 1988 and it's still strong, don't have any sounds like this one but it's an excellent drum controller.

Thanks so much, Nick! You explain in a very clear and simple way how this device works - excellent work!

Like it or not not. All of Nick's equipment demo's for Sweetwater are super helpful.
I would like to see a head to head with the Alexis version.

Having a unit of f this kind to accompany a guitarist or keyboardist for small, low volume gigs will be great. I love playing acoustic kits, but volume and size constraints can require these tools if we are going to gig.

I had An Octapad II in the late 1980s. In fact I bought it without having a clue what it did just because it looked so cool. Got it home and realised it had no in-built sounds, so hooked it up to my friend's Kawai K1... my first encounter with MIDI.

I have a full TD drumkit now, with loads of extra pads but I quite fancy one of these SPDs and a couple of foot switches to play "minimalist" locales. Think it'd be quite cool and for once, I wouldn't need an 18-wheeler to take all my kit with me.

I still use my SPD-S. Midi is a beautiful thing!

The SPDSX-PRO will be the industry standard for Pro Drummers, excellent upgrade from my SPD-SX especially the light bars, colour screen and the memory capacity. I got my Pro in December and I can honestly say it’s the business and is easier to work with than any of the other competitors and I’ve tried them all.

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered it today. This was very helpful to give me a head start while I wait for it to arrive!

Hey, Sweetwater! Y'all should do a video series of meeting your gear advisor. Maybe let them give a little of their background and why they love their job, helping people get what they need.

The setlist feature and displaying the pad names in front of you make this worth the upgrade.

👉 FIRST AND FOREMOST… after a seemingly endless search and countless videos later, this is the first video that actually puts the unit into perspective for us cinematic composers. As the proud owner of a world-class DAW station, and a dream collection of vintage keyboards, one of which goes all the way back to 1864, I never thought I really needed any more gear. I even have the original OCTAPAD 8, from 1987, which is still awesome to this very day. This is the only video I’ve ever found that shows how this Octa 30 can be very useful for us cinematic music composers. Yes, I know this was originally designed for drummers in mind, but this is also a wonderful tool for the production of cinematic compositions for film.

The fact that we can import wav files through a USB port via a thumb drive is a big home run. And we can see the control panel on our DAW screen. I will purchase another monitor screen just for the SPD-SX Pro.

The 16 step sequencing feature is also a huge plus for film composers.

Thank you. I will contact my sales engineer right away.

Please do a video demonstrating use as a small standalone kit with external triggers (kick, high-hat, etc..)
BTW, how many hits can the glass display take from a stick?

Pad sequence actually outputs midi so you can use it to sequence a set of sounds in Ableton.
