Excellent to hear a real story applying the usefulness of this whistle.  My kids are much younger (3 of them) and I am trying to get them to appreciate the outdoors more than tv or video games. It's been working so far :)  Thanks for another great video!

Thanks for all the great videos, Brian.  I am a firm believer in kids and adults having a hug-a-tree kit on them at all times in the outdoors.  Google hug-a-tree kit to see what it is.  A couple of years ago we made these as a pack activity at one of our summer Cub Scout pack meetings.  Of course, we amped it up a little bit, but the core hug-a-tree kit was still there. It was a big hit with the kids.  Most of them took the lesson to heart, I see them with it every time we go camping or hiking.  Thanks for all that you do.

On a SAR mission in Northeast Florida, an autistic five year old girl got away from her folks In the National Forrest east of Lake City. When no one could locate her, she was able to locate one of our cadets (CAP) because all the ground team members wear a whistle and flashlight on their 24hr equipment.

I always carry a whistle with me. Don't know how loud it is, but it works just fine and it might come in handy indeed. Nice one.

great video, my kids and I always have whistles in our pockets when were hiking or hunting. except there always hiding trying to scare the old man, keep those vids coming. Very knowledgeable

Good advice and video. I personally prefer the LRI Photon light and have 2 on my person at all times. As an added benefit, I believe LRI will repair/replace your light in many circumstances if it malfunctions (short of direct abuse) or breaks.

Brian I glued a small button compass to my whistle. I have a bank line cord instead of metal because of the compass.  Great advice!

Every time my family of my kids go out to a park, the woods, amusement parks, or on feild trips with school i make sure my kids, my husband and my self carry this same whistle & light . what a coincidence

whistles actually will NOT carry much further than your voice, if at all further. HOWEVER you can only keep that yelling up for so long before your voice is shot. That is why a whistle is needed, so you can blow it on a regular schedule when lost, like every 5 minutes, all day.
