Check out Sheath using the link in the description! They're very good for the man-pickle.

Since filming this - I've been asked on national TV to discuss it and other articles have popped up. I'm still at a loss why this is even news, but like I said at the end of this video - if this somehow starts a conversation about obesity and how we attempt to justify and excuse it, then I'm happy for that. Nobody should have to sit through this type of situation. And American Airlines - you call me any time to negotiate my reparations. ;D

I think regardless of viewpoints on this, fundamentally, if you pay for a seat on an airline, you should be entitled to the surface area of that seat. No "overflow" from other passengers.

Looking at the fact that the brother/sister combo bought tickets with a seat in between them tells you they knew they were too big to fit comfortably in that space and hoped they would either squeeze a smaller person in between them or hope no one bought that seat. They should have split the cost of the third seat to have that space.

What’s worse is these two siblings KNEW what they were doing by choosing the two seats they did.

A friend of mine is very obese. When he takes a plane, he buys two seats. He says if you take up more than the one seat, you should be required to buy two.

It's amazing that the airline admits people come in all shapes and sizes and still have one size fits all seats.

the fact they were siblings and purposely bought seats that were not next to each other meant that they knew they weren't gonna have enough space yet they chose not to buy the middle seat but rather let some stranger suffer instead.

What if you had been as big as them? The only way they were able to get away with this BS is because you are in shape and can fit in a third of a seat. That’s so messed up. How dare they give you a hard time when you were the one subjected to this miserable flight. That ticket was paid for. Just because it wasn’t specifically by you shouldn’t matter. I can’t believe what is happening to the world,

You should have continually gotten up to use the bathroom until he got sick of getting up

The weird thing is, the same consideration is rarely given to overly tall people in society, something we know they can’t control.

I say this as an obese woman: if you are so fat that you take up the space of two seats on a plane, then it is your own responsibility to buy two tickets. I'm tired of people being so damn sentitive to the truth. The decisions I've made regarding my own body/food/health should NOT, in ANY way, affect others negatively. It's my own responsability to keep that from happening. You are 100% right, Sydney.

Fun fact: a hotel I worked in had a mini van shuttle to the city center. It took 8 passengers tops and you had to reserve your place. One day the driver had it fully booked and discovered that all the 8 passengers were not able to depart together because they simply couldn't fit inside! Those were all american tourists, obese to an extreme. The cheif of the reception team advised to take into consideration the size of the passenger, and maybe stop at 6, not 8.

Several years ago I flew as a very large woman, sitting in the window seat. There was a large gentleman sitting in the aisle seat, who I didn’t know. A woman came to sit between us and as soon as she sat between us she called the flight attendant over and was quite vocal about the situation and was moved right away. I spent the flight in tears at the humiliation. I was not then or now angry or upset about the lady who demanded a seat change-it would have been miserable to be between us.

If they were siblings and they didn't get seats next to each other, but with a space between, I assume that is because they knew it would impossible to sit next to each other

The brother and sister definitely did this intentionally, they booked their seats apart because they knew if they sat together they wont have enough space.

My husband and I went on a flight recently and due to his size, we purchased an extra seat for him. We were on a small plane with only two seats on each side of the aisle so my seat was supposed to be in the row across from him. I was informed when I got on the plane my seat needed to be changed. Ok, no big deal, I'm just happy to be going on vacation. Until I got to my new seat assignment which was next to a larger man. I had to spend the entire flight leaning into the aisle so his body would not be touching mine. Like you, I am not ok with a stranger touching my body, nor should I be made to feel like I should be ok with it because the person touching me is a larger person. Not to mention the girl behind me that was bouncing her head off the back of my seat the entire time while she slept (my husband was in the row behind her and told me later what happened when I told him I didn't know what the hell the person behind me was doing) and the man sitting across the aisle from me that was noisily bouncing his leg the entire time. It was the worst flight I've ever experienced. If you're an obese person you know it and are well aware of the fact you will not fit in an airplane seat and should be made to purchase two seats. If you cannot afford it, then you shouldn't be flying. Sorry, not sorry.
My husband had bariatric surgery and has lost 160 lbs and hopefully will only need one seat the next time we fly but if not we will again purchase two seats for him. Because no one should be made uncomfortable for the choices he has made to overfeed his body.
It's not fat shaming to stand up and say "I am not ok with you being in my personal space or touching my body".

Sue the airline. Make it a class action suit. You paid for something that they did not give you.

"Our passengers come in all shapes and sizes" but our seats are NOT one size fits all.

As a frequent flyer, I understand perfectly your pain.
If I pay for ONE SEAT, they need to give me ONE SEAT. Not 1/2 of a seat and then airline tell me that I am not as important as the fat people.
Those two fat brother and sister bought intentionally the seats separated by one seat, because they KNEW they will inconvenience each other. They were actually evil... they needed to buy the seat between them too.
Edit: Doing purposely harm to another human is evil. They knew what they were doing, without any regard to others.

Okay so… no. I 1000% agree with you. I’ve been in this exact situation, and it sucks. It’s not fat shaming. It’s a matter of a person touching me when I don’t want to be touched. I’ve paid for a seat on an airplane, not half a seat. If I can’t comfortably move, I am not getting what I paid for. Large people need to buy 2 seats. We don’t need to accommodate their size. Preach, girl.
