Показать описание
In this short series, we'll download, install and configure FreeBSD 13.0 for use on the desktop.
Unlike NomadBSD, airyxOS and helloSystem, which are ready out of the box, FreeBSD requires a little work - learning as we go, installing a desktop, configuring and finally enjoying what FreeBSD has to offer.

a small nitpick: if you write the dd command in linux like you presented it, it will give you an error. The correct syntax for the last portion on linux is "bs=1M" (note the uppercase M)

Many thanks for including OpenBSD in the instructions.

Yes! While I have successfully installed and ran FreeBSD with xfce, I have had nothing but problems with printers. Looking forward to all of the series.

Best wishes for 2022. Current enjoying kde5 atop fbsd13 (release). An absolute topper. Decided to go all on freebsd this year, apart from the hardware with non supported issues, such as the WiFi not being directly supported....

Watched this video from a FreeBSD desktop. Good to see new 2022 content from you.

BTW, I like the scrolling text when it boots.

Im diving again into using Freebsd after more than 10 years of not using it. I think the last time I used it was version 7. Funny enough, i used to install all my applications by compiling it using the ports tree :D Now that I am older and wanted to kind of minimize staring at the terminal for long periods of time, i will go for the pre-complied packages :) I love the way you teach, straight and simple. I am coming from Debian. Cheers from Manila :)

Thanks for the group operator shell dialogue, as I couldn't even get superuser without it. Official documents presume more knowledge than I have.

Thanks to your mentions of using FreeBSD on your kids computers from other videos. I’ve got FreeBSD 13 with KDE going. He is only 10 but he loves it and we do typing race games in the web browser. Love the content, video ideas maybe share a little more about the setup for your kids computers.

Please, please, PLEASE continue this series, labeling each video's description (as you did here) with [2022]. It would be nice if you used a sequential label for the series, or made a playlist.

Great basic start awaiting to follow until full DE install. I would like to now how to install either DDE Deepin desktop or gnome I find either very good. I wanting to build up to a Desktop environment I can install on OEM hardware with set hardware configs. At the moment either Linux or BSD stack, I just feed up with OEM's all pushing Windows, Android or iOS. All of which have a Money making view. I want to build out of up cycled hardware and all the Pain OS's come with target software costs. So if I was to put in a charitable PC a OS that prime aim is making money it unfair on them as I planing to give my OEM computers at cost on a charity bases like school. I hated the fact that at school IT consisted of just how to use MS products. I from the day of Amiga's and making my own software if it doesn't exist. I haven't coded for 20 years or so but moved to Linux about 6 years ago as Unix like systems make way more sense to me.
