Yes! I love series like these!
Beginner content can absolutely help folks eventually gain enough confidence to take that step forward towards BSD usage.

Well done Gary.

I think a complete beginners course for FreeBSD has the potential to grow a huge community.
Keep it going 👍

Oh my. I loved FreeBSD and even used it as my primary system, a daily driver around 2006 - 2007. And I was extremely annoyed by the frequently quoted proverb "FreeBSD users only see their favourite system in a PuTTY window", because I really used it for all my tasks, for both work and entertainment. But this video sorta proves that "PuTTY window" lore.

Dear Gary, thanks for your videos of FreeBSD 🙂 Although I do not need basics - but maybe others will enjoy it. Cheers, Norbert

Hello brother; thank you for your good effort. I'm indeed a FreeBSD neophyte, and new to the world of open-source usage in general. May I give you feedback and report back on how I have been able to follow and understand your excellent tutorial? I have a few questions to ask, hoping that my neophyte perspective will not bore you too much :-).

🔹1: I noticed that when you typed "ls -lah" the ".cshrc-file" was in your home directory. I heard you say CSH is your shell of choice, and the .cshrc-file must be the configuration file for your shell. As it is found in your home directory, this must mean that the changes you make to this configuration file will be user-specific, meaning those changes take place for only you. Is this correct? As the "csh" in the filename stands for the shell type that you use, what does the remaining "rc" stand for? I would guess the "c" would stand for "configuration", but the "r" remains ambiguous.
🔹2: What exactly is the .cshrc-file; i.e. what other things is it used for other than defining your text editor of choice?
🔹3: You execute the command "pkg install pico-alpine". How do you know the package is called "pico-alpine"? For instance, a neophyte like myself might have typed: "pkg install pico" and be given an error message, not knowing it should actually be "pico-alpine".
🔹4: I seem to understand the pkg application connects you to the FreeBSD repository, containing pico-alpine. Is that correct? Coming from a Windows background, I need to get used to this repository-approach to obtaining software.
🔹5: At 6:18 the screen went black and did not display your command line, but I figure you must have typed: "pico .cshrc".
🔹6: With the .cshrc-file opened in pico, on the line that says "setenv EDITOR vi", you replace "vi" with "pico". How do you know it should be "pico"? Why isn't it "pico-alpine"? Does it even matter?
🔹7: What is "setenv"? Does it stand for "set environment"?

Again, I apologise for my "sub-epistemic" condition ;-). Thank you for your patience and good will.

Suggestion : setup nginx and static websites, host a minetest server (works pretty solid) :P
