Speaking on Brexit, the Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said: "It's critically important for all of us to recognise that when we voted to leave, we voted to maintain control of our borders, of our waters, of our taxes.

"We have to ensure that those red lines, those principles of independence and sovereignty are respected by the EU side. I hope that the EU will recognise that."

It comes shortly after news that under an agreement reached by Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove and his EU counterpart Maros Sefcovic, the Government will remove clauses in a Bill passing through Parliament that would have broken the terms of the EU Withdrawal Agreement.

Ministers had admitted the clauses in the Internal Market Bill would have broken international law in a “specific and limited way” and the EU had said it could not agree a trade deal if the controversial law passed.
