The LOCA glue is what is causing the discoloration in the LCD at the end of the video.

LET ME KNOW IF THE LINKS STOP WORKING!!

This video will teach you everything you need to know about replacing JUST THE GLASS on your iPhone 5, 5c, or 5s. It is the same process for any of those phones.

FIRST OFF: This is very very difficult. I personally recommend saving time and just buying the WHOLE screen replacement (LCD and Glass combo)

BUT if you are serious about trying this out yourself check out the links above to get the correct materials.

Jerry, you do a remarkable job of ignoring these haters. I don't recall any of your videos "claiming" that you were an "expert"; only that you hope it helps others.
If these haters are so outstanding at this craft, I would appreciate their offering their time to show us better methods. Personally, I combed over many videos, and picked and chose small portions from several. The bottom line, while I attempt and usually succeed at a wide range of DIY projects, I would not have ventured into this repair if you and and others with your interest in helping others, did not take the time and effort to share your experiences.
Again, THANK YOU!.

I AM ONE OF THE FEW =) Or maybe it's not quite so terrible. It did take a real long time.

It worked! I just used a few drops of 5-minute epoxy on the very edges instead of the fancy uv-glue, and everything works! The screen works fine, touch / swipe works great still. I used the 91% isopropyl alcohol - at first it felt like nothing was coming off at all, but using a guitar pick to scrape it off, and LOTS of alcohol, got it started.

I thought that I damaged the LCD because the back discolored a tiny bit and pulled up a little, but when I put it all back together it was perfectly fine.

Thanks for the video!

Jerry, I know that you dont gonna read this but I must express it anyway:

In 2022 this video help me to repair my Nexus 4, I just want to give you thanks like you ask in the video, im alredy suscribed since before you record this video, and you alredy have millions of suscribers so a like more dont gonna help you to support you or your channel.

You've change a lot in all this years, youre voice, set up, video editting, almost the only constant its "like Lego piece" (yhea, I search for it in this video also 😅)

Now you have a paraplegic wife, a son, and a electric hummer, contrast a lot with the guy of this video that just "repair phones all the day"...

But what you did in the past are still giving fruit, this videos seems to still been helpful. Valuate that.

And if you can recover this style, maybe its not so lucrative like what you're doing now, but would be more useful... I dont gonna make my own electric hummer, 3D printed statue of myself, or a paraplegic elevator on a two floors house that barely some people can afford...

Sometimes the changes looks good but they are not valuable, and sometimes are changes that looks bad, but are good for youreself, like that horse accident that if your wife doesnt have, you never would know her...

The aesthetic of youre videos improves, the size of youre projects increase, your camera, sound, editing, its better, but if a 6 years old video is more useful that all the videos that you record this year...

So thanks very much for share your knowledge Jerry, you extend the life of a Nexus more than 8 years, this is the fifth phone that I dont trow to the trash. But dont stop doing this, are a lot of people in India (for name an example) that would watch and rewatch this content, that would help hundreds and thousands of people.

Hi, thanks for posting the video! I just took the broken glass off with out even taking the screws and/or screen off, though. To me your video was helpful because you used a playing card instead of that triangle. I don't have the glue, so I had to use tape to hold it together until I get the glue. I have a working phone now, for only $5. I forgot to mention this is my second attempt on doing the glass only, I've changed plenty of screen digitizers and this glass was from the first failed attempt  Thanks!!

Thank you very much for the video, it was very helpful and I was able to do the repair. I did not have a heat gun such as yours, but I was able to use my girlfriends hair dryer instead to heat it up and remove the glass. I did not have any rubbing alchol to help clean the glue off, but instead used some acetone nail polish remover. I also bought a small tube of LOCA glue and UV flashlight combo from amazon.

After reassembling everything my screen now has parts of it where it is darker, random blobs of it. Was this maybe caused by not using the UV light enough, cleaning the screen with acetone (nail polish remover, not a lot either), or maybe something else that I have done? I am going to leave the flashlight on the phone overnight to hopefully fix this problem.

Thanks again for the video, you rock!

8 years later, I am watching this and thinking of my shoebox full of cracked iPhone 5C, 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, 8 and Xr screens. Great stuff, very simple to follow. These cheap iPhones 5C were abused and at least in Europe you can't find too many good ones. I have a couple of them. Still great for nostalgics. Will definitely try it soon.

It looks like crap, look at the top corner of the screen, after the replacement 9:27 the glue hasnt been distributed evenly. If you want to replace your screen just get the whole LCD screen for $40 and safe yourself the hassle

Working on 5s I began removing glue from LCD which seemed much more difficult. A very small corner of a film peeled up which I learned is the polarizer. Pulling that off removes glue with it and saves a lot of hassle but needs a replacement which is available online. The LCD is shot already after the work but it might be useful mentioning this and providing a link in the description. Great vid

Did the replacement, took about two hours. The process worked, however we had a problem. We used both alcohol and Goo Gone (It was mentioned in the video). The Goo Gone got in the layers of the LCD screen. Left us with a foggy screen, going to replace both the LCD and digitizer now. I wonder if we could have sealed the LCD with super glue before we started the glue removal? Also had some small bubbles that we did not see at first so look very carefully before you use the UV light to set the glue. A word of advice, create a list of tools and supplies and step by step guide, that helped in the process. Overall a good tutorial thanks Jerry.
