I'm from SoCal and this is NOT the first case like this either.

Arizona tourism is going to be hurt by this. Which means all Arizonans are going to be hurt by job and tax revenue losses.

It really takes 12 days in a detention facility to get visas processed? This is a failure on a lot of levels.

It would be interesting to hear what the authorities have to say about this. In another article she said that she had travelled back and forth before with no issues. Was her Visa expired then? And why was she coming in from the Mexico border? She seems like a nice and reasonable person so it would be a bit troublesome if she showed up at the boarder, tried to enter and was detained instead of released back into Mexico? Although it would be smart to have your paper work in order first.

No one from any country outside the US should visit the US till Trump is no longer president or you may end up in this facility. Arizona voted for Trump and deserves any decrease in tourism from their stupid choices.

It is a profound tragedy that, while a Canadian citizen—a white woman, no less—faces detention in the United States, her own country, Canada, is guilty of detaining innocent people as well. Asylum seekers, often fleeing violence and persecution, are detained by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in provincial facilities or immigration holding centers across the country, such as in Ontario and Quebec. These facilities, intended for those considered a risk or flight threat, are often filled with vulnerable individuals with no criminal intentions.

The reality that Canada imprisons the innocent, particularly in such harsh conditions, stands in stark contrast to the nation’s professed values of fairness and compassion. It is a sobering reminder that the vulnerability of those seeking refuge, regardless of their origin, is too often overlooked in favor of enforcement. The detainment of an innocent Canadian citizen is a tragedy, but it is equally tragic when such practices are extended to the most vulnerable seeking shelter in Canada.

I don't think we are getting the whole story. Just the sensational part of it.

If you go try to renew a visa the most backwards way possible by showing upto the border

So... which rules of getting the visa did she violate?

That's why she was detained. SOMETHING that she did.

There’s more outrage over a woman who let her visa expire then went about renewing it in the entirely wrong way than there was about the American military members who were killed during the disastrous Afghanistan pullout.

She was actually detained for attempting to smuggle vocal-fried fishlips into the U.S.

What was her connection with the Cannabis Industry? I rarely hear that mentioned and it is illegal in the U.S.A. Federally. Very confusing.

Such a dishonest report. The woman tried to circumvent work visa laws by staying illegally after her after her visa expired. She got caught and had a choice of getting deported immediately or staying to see if the second visa gets approved. Did she expect a 4 star hotel?

You break the rules, you suffer consequences. She should have just left the US and gone back to her home in Canada, instead of trying to re-enter via Mexico.
