The new Tudor ranger

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the British North Greenland Expedition, Tudor is releasing a new Ranger that is somewhat appropriate but surely welcomed by Tudor fans. The ranger is the beloved cousin of the Rolex explorer that was initially produced in small batches. In 2014 the ranger was released under the heritage line of Tudor where it resided for a while. Today, Tudor is re-releasing the new ranger with some notable improvements.

Enjoyed the side-by-side walkthrough to the previous Ranger, thanks for doing this!

This is not supposed to be an “exciting” watch. Tudor did not “miss an opportunity” as so many have said. Not everything has to have polished chamfers, silver applied indices, stepped dials, etc. This is supposed to be a simple watch for the many people who don’t like enormous, elaborate, shiny pieces meant for showing off. If you look at the watch, you can clearly see the intent - unlike Tudor’s flashy two-tone 2022 releases - is to go in the direction of understated, functional, and legible.

Which one do you prefere the previos one or the new one? Do you think the previos one would be more collectable ?

Good point, a little underwhelming. But sticking to it's values, Tudor has introduced a 'no frills' Explorer. It has the upgraded movement and that's about it. What else do you need?

I don’t think a male end-link is an issue when the end link is not fitted, as it’s free to rotate down anyway.

I appreciate the side-by-side comparison to the older Ranger model and the ‘bonus’ BB36!

Just a point. A straight male end link is just as wrist friendly as a female end link. It's only when its a fitted male end link that the lug to lug distance is increased.

Having male endlinks on a straight end link bracelet is necessary. And also not the same as make on fitted end links as the straight style drapes straight down (so same as female on fixed ends). It’s the fixed element that causes issues when the link is male as it means the link juts out of the case itself effectively increasing the wearable lug to lug.

I like the looks of the older version better .

Definitely feel like the 2014 release had something going for it they just made it too darn big!!!! This new one is very safe, simple and to me doesn’t feel like I was holding a £2400 watch my friend!

Reminds me a Longines Spirit titanium I was recently looking at.

Having discontinued the Explorer 39mm I think that Rolex have ‘allowed’ Tudor this rerelease in that size rather than bringing it out in a 36mm version which would cramp the current Explorers style.
Some may say that this release is ‘uninspired’ but, I feel that the Ranger shouldn’t have been discontinued from the Tudor range in the first place. It is such a good looking and great value Watch giving a vintage look (of the 1016 maybe) to customers who want it.
Overall, a brief redesign that may disappoint some expecting a newly designed Watch but, also delivering what many of us wanted, the Ranger back in the Tudor lineup. A win in my book for Tudor.
Great video as always Jayson. We know that YouTube is ‘hard work’. That’s why we appreciate what you do! ✊

I’m a Tudor fanboy and I’m happy to see they’re releasing this watch with an in-house movement and improved bracelet, but i gotta say I agree with you, Tudor is really milking that 39 mm case size and not including enough innovation. But it’s nice to look at for sure

I think the release and design is spot on. It's very on brand for tudor to do a heritage release without any extreme design language change. Looking at it as how the Rolex explorer has gone through decades without any crazy major change. The brand direction of Tudor is really moving to modern heritage and I for one love it. I don't expect them to overwhelm anyone anytime soon with a new release

I like it, but it needs something more. Maybe applied indices, or something else on the dial, not sure what. The BB36 looks better executed, would be awesome if it was offered in 39 mm.

I'm very seriously thinking about upgrading my BB36 to this. I can trade it in, I have some money down on a Rolex that's never coming so I can use that and get this for about even or a few hundred more.... I just need to see it more first and see if it will work as a one watch does all type of thing, that's the type of watch that needs to be if its replacing my silver dial BB36.

Love it. Reminds me of the North Flag (a watch I thought about hard before actually getting the Pelagos). The larger bezel and band looking fully integrated to the case looks much better imho. I agree they could have done much more

I'm a traditionalist and part of any watch is its history. He chose the Tudor Rose to represent the brand in honour of his wife and children. To dismiss that removes part of the watch's story.

Looks good. Is as boring as an Explorer but available and has a micro adjust clasp. Wish it had drilled lugs though.
