One reason for using a capper is because although it is rare, a percussion cap CAN go off when doing them by hand, especially if you push or tap on the cap to seat one that is tight. Or if you try pinching one if it is too loose. Very rare event, yes. But it HAS happened. And when it does you will lose the first 1/4" or so from the tip of your thumb. Google for pictures of what your thumb will look like if it happens to you. USE A CAPPER. (Owner here of two black powder pistols, 1851 Navy in 36, 1858 New Army 44, both from Cabelas.)

Thanks for showing how to use the loop to hold the spring back while loading. I have a similar one and always found it to be a pain to hold the spring back and drop the caps in at the same time.

Amazing that you got the caps into that thing! I bought one and it would not accept number 10 caps. Since you can't find number 11 caps, I am unable to verify if it will accept them. A waste of money and time trying to get it to take the caps! I was and still am extremely disappointed!

Yes and if you push down with your thumb, you possibly could blow your thumb into pieces.

I got two for my rifle and pistol. I found the mod works and Snell cappers suck.

Bought the China-made “Thunder Cloud” #11 capper at Wal-Mart today. It’s a knockoff of the CVA. Needs the same slight pressing at the end as discussed in this video.

i bought a thompson center #11 capper from buffalo arms....higher price than other brands...made in china..does NOT fit or work..too small to load caps into capper frame & hole too tried #10 caps no fit either!! what a disappointment.. another chinese P.O.S. sending it back for seller should inform customer country that manufactures!
