I'm so glad that this channel exists. There really are not many resources out there for learning Swiss German (there's even less resources for learning Rumantsch!). I'm addicted to learning languages! I speak fluent English (native), Portuguese, and Esperanto. I've been studying Italian, German (Standard), and Chinese. I'm planning on visiting Switzerland next year, so I decided to also pick up some Swiss German. I love speaking the native language of the countries I visit, I feel like I have a different experience than I would if I just spoke English.

to count all the Swiss dialects, you simply count the amount of villages, and you will come up with pretty correct number :)

I love what you are doing. I want to learn to impress my family. They all speak it, except me. I think they would be pleasantly surprised. DANKE

I think your channel will be invaluable for me! I'm a native English speaker, living on the Polish German border but I'll be moving to Basel in around 3 or 4 years. I speak German only to A2/B1 level (depends on who I'm talking to and how fast they speak!) and I heard you needed to be B1 in German at least to learn Swiss German. Hearing you say that it's a standalone language means I can learn it from scratch without worrying about improving my existing German skills 😊 Can't wait to make my way through your content and will likely be checking out your patreon too. Thanks for taking the time to make this content!

My last name is actually Hunziker, and I’m excited about coming to Switzerland in July 2022. Hopefully COVID won’t de-rail my plans.

Grüezi!

In a similar way to Andalusia, what we speak in the region, depends on where you are. You might have trouble understanding the dialect of the villages around you (not as much as the people from Madrid, though!) and similarly to you, we can more or less tell from which area someone comes by the way they speak.

And, as in Swiss German, Andalusian dialects are only spoken. Or it should be, since some people try to write in Andalusian!

I live in Baden-Württemberg, by the way, so I get some exposure to Swiss German and it sometimes sounds very musical even though it's hard to understand :-)
