I would use InvestEngine if you're just starting out/in the stage of growing your pension and Interactive Investor if you are further along or near retirement and need a drawdown facility.

Brilliant comparison video, but very odd as to why IBKR was left out. IBKR seems like the best option to me and is one of the biggest brokers out there. They require a SIPP administrator rather than direct, however it's still a simple, cost-effective process while its offerings exceed the other categories that were compared too. It would have also been nice to see which SIPP providers in this video offer more than just stocks and ETFs, such as options trading which IBKR appears to be the only one in the UK offering in SIPPs.

Additionally, you say at 13:50 that Freetrade charges users £17 per share to transfer it out, but It's per holding, and only for US stocks. So the video indicates the price could be astronomical, but is actually either not applicable or quite low if the portfolio is only a few US stocks, such as £85 for 5 holdings (I don't recommend Freetrade, but just ensuring accuracy).

Unrelated, but your PC build in the background is awesome! Out of curiosity, what are those cables with the illumination that occurs every 3 secs?

Great video Chris. The moment I left my job I transferred work pension from Aviva to ii SIPP. Fees dropped massively. It’s a scandal what some workplace pensions charge but you are kind of locked in due to employer contributions. I worry about folk who just leave their pensions in high fee pensions. Even though I tell as many people as possible to check on these fees they don’t see, to bother.

Hi Chris, I’ve just found your YouTube now and looking to open a SIPP. From your information I was going to open one with Vanguard but notice they’ve just brought in new fees. I’m thinking Invest Engine. This is all new to me. My news years resolution is to research how to invest for my future as I’ve always put it off previously as found it all overwhelming, thank you for making such a helpful and informative video 😊

I think it's outrageous in these days of alleged pension freedoms that I am trapped with People's Pension until either my firm changes provider or I change firm. Partial transfers should be a given. I only contribute the statutory minimum there via payroll deductions. The bulk of my surplus salary each month goes to my Vanguard SIPP (and ISA).

Scottish Widows charge 0.18 % and Aviva -0.25. Infact Quilter charges 0.25% as well. The aforementioned ones provide almost all the funds available in the whole market with various types of investment strategies.

Very informative, I use fidelity & did not know I would be better off with an EFT on thier platform regarding fees.

Thanks for the great work Chris. Lots of people will benefit from this video. Would have been interesting to see the costs for portfolios that also invest shares and funds but l understand things would have been quite complicated. Again, thanks again for the great video.

The fact that Invest Engine seems to be taking forever to sort out a function enabling the transfer of old work place pensions onto their platform is becoming a bit of a deal breaker! How long can it take!?

Thanks Chris, that was one of the best comparisons I've seen - many leave out FX fees which really affect me. I have accounts with ii and AJ Bell and as you point out they are both quite close. However due to the Fx fees with ii which are about double AJ Bell, I have opened a SIPP with AJ Bell and am in the process of moving my Trade and ISA accounts from ii to AJ Bell.
