It's so funny how I used to watch your videos before I went to basic training and now I'm a soldier stationed in Fort Drum New York

My experience in the Army Reserve was pretty good. The Healthcare benefit itself is great. That can be the sole reason to be in.

This is amazing timing; I met with my recruiter Wednesday and have a dozen videos pulled up on Reserves vs Active Duty. Love your videos man.

Love watching your videos! My son is in Army Reserves, MP. Graduated this year and on his first D. 🇺🇸💪

BLUF:

1. Your location determines the MOS. So your choices may be limited unless you are will to travel (see point #2)
2. Your unit may be far away which requires you to drive/fly (1 hour drive time is about the average)
3. You don't get the full benefits like active duty (reduced GI Bill, paid housing, paid medical insurance, etc)
4. Drill Pay is different from active duty pay.
5. Your unit will have a huge effect on your experience, more so than active duty. Some units are great, others have no motivation.
6. 1-weekend month / 2 weeks a year can be worked around your work and family life schedule (somewhat).

That 1st Group patch is looking good on your wall, sir. I'm glad to see that the mail still works despite the pandemic

Just by watching this video gave me so much confidence of joining the reserve and be able to chase my goals at the same time. Great tips! Thank you 🙏🏼

Great point about the motivation differences.

Great video, sir! Gotta love when the reserve unit for the state next to you is CLOSER than the one your assigned to in your state (cough, cough 3 hours away haha)

Also, if you join a Civil Affairs or PSYOP unit, you can forget about just 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer. They're busier than the rest of USAR and have more training going on. Upside, you can go to more schools with less hoops to jump through and more than likely you'll be on jump status. Not all of them are airborne units but most are. USACAPOC is only 5% of the total USAR force but conducts 20% of deployments. Even in peacetime, you can bet on deployments with your team...or volunteer to deploy with another team.

Happened to me with a crappy unit. Stood in the unit for 2 years to see if it got better.... didn't, so I dropped my transfer packet and it was approved pretty quick.

It’s against federal law for a job to not allow you to do anything military. The army can sue the civilian jobs which is greatv

My husband used to have an hour and a half drive to his unit. He now has a near four hour drive as we live in different state.

I’m 25, have a degree and a good job in sales but I want to serve my country in some way. I’m really confused about how the reserves works, but this helped a little. Thanks
Edit: I always thought the reserves was just something you enrolled in and when something bad happens and they need men, they just call you up to serve. Didn’t know you have to have a part-time job in the Army. Very interesting, learn something new everyday.

Once you hit e-3 it pretty much pays for the health insurance family plan which is nice.

In my reserve unit we have no motivation. Absolutely terrible communications skills and our leadership sucks. Sometime this week actually I'll be scheduled to go back to MEPs to enlist into active tho.
