Do NOT use a screwdriver!!! Use fishing line and cut through the adhesive, it is so easy to just ruin your laptop with poking through the battery.

I used my aunt's SNAP benefits card to pry the battery out.
Worked like a charm.

The internet ... the modern university of everything. Thank you, you spared me some dough and I very much appreciate you for that! You rock!

This worked fine for me but I suggest getting a kit from the Auto parts store for doing door trim etc. They are plastic levers and pry bars usually in a kit of 4-6 different sizes. Plastic means you won't be as likely to puncture a battery and they are prybar shaped so you don't need the eraser for a fulcrum.

Thanks, this helped me a lot and saved a ton of time! I did what you suggested, stated with the battery right away and removed the 2nd piece first and then the rest. It worked out great and the the battery removal process (after I removed all the screws and the touchpad ribbon) took literally 10 minutes!
Though I did use adhesive removal that came with the iFixit kit and some pretty wide (much wider than screwdriver) pryer.
Also the fact that my battery was very swollen, strangely, helped because due to that swelling some of the adhesive, I guess, unstuck naturally over time.
Thanks, Cheers!

Thanks SO much for this video - it saved me tons of time and really eliminated the possibility of damage to the other parts from uninstalling and reinstalling. I went slow and was able to pull the center batteries without a tool, as you suggested. I had the battery replaced in 30 mins! We’ll done!

This works!! You don’t need to disassemble the entire MBP to get the battery out.

It took me about 15 minutes to remove the battery and then about 5 minutes to clean up the existing sticky sections using a tweezer to peel it off.

Remember to drain the battery until the computer shuts off abs DO NOT use metal tools around the battery.

I recommend using a small amount of nail polish remover on the edge of a card to help soften the glue as you pry the battery out.

I was able to make this work on my mac with old and swollen batteries. I could not believe how much adhesive they used. Thanks for the video.

I used a scraper with a small wooden block, battery was out in 10 to 15 minutes. Excellent tip! Thank

You can always tape the end of the screwdriver to add padding and allow it to not puncture anything

Yes metal may not be ideal, just don't use anything small and sharp. I used a 2" flexible putty knife because it was thin and wide. It was super easy to get under the edge and pry the batteries out easily. My batteries were leaking one of the chemicals already. I could small it when I opened the case. Battery installed with no issues. Did remove trackpad cable from motherboard and trackpad to protect it. Easily removed and replaced. Thin and wide, regardless of what you use, works quick and fairly safely. My plastic tools were too thick especially for the batteries over the trackpad.

Thank you so much man, I watched your videos and went for it. If anyone has trackpad issues after just make sure that tape on top of the battery is fastened and plugged in correctly. I had to redo that step after turning the computer on to no avail.

Thank you for this, I can’t believe the schematics and how Apple designed these batteries in, it’s totally ridiculous and cumbersome, they could definitely have had a better design in 2015, they do it so you’ll bring it to an Apple tech so they can squeeze more money out of you, because that’s what Apple does, I’m one of those people that likes to tinker and fix things myself, anyway thank you again for taking the time to post this

You shouldnt use any metal tools near LiPo batteries unless youre sure what you are doing but i still wouldnt recommend it because if you want to remove the batterie its likely already broken so its even more unstable. Damaging the battery can cause fire and or explosion and is prevented by using plastic tools without sharp edges.

my batteries were puffed up so badly that I was able to pry the batteries out by hand. otherwise, I wouldn't have considered using a screwdriver on a puffed battery. still, I didn't know they were "glued" in place. helpful all in all.

Something most people don't realize: If you drain the old battery completely, then there's no risk of it get caught on fire !!
