Hey Techne. I’m a bit confused;
In your standalone review of the Ath-g1 you said that the sound was “phenomenal” You even said “when paired with the Soundblaster g6, it’s the best headset you’ve heard to date”
The title of the vid even had a “spoiler” that it was “amazing”
I know that you’ve listened to many different headphones since then, but I don’t see how you can have such differing views on what you explain is essentially the same sounding product.
I’m honestly not having a dig, and hate to sound rude. But it was just very strange to hear polar opposite descriptions.
Still love your reviews regardless. You’ve influenced many of my purchases over the years 🫡

Should compare these with the XLR version as well and see if that sound your hearing is still there. A comparison between the 3 headsets would be cool to see

I know it's a bit late, but could it be the cushions affecting the sound? I know I've used different cushions on certain headphones to change the sound to my liking. Kinda like a natural EQ. The m50x are sensitive to this. Which is why certain companies had to make specific cushions for them to maintain their sound signature.

The mic doesn't strictly need a windscreen, it needs a SHORTER boom arm. There's no reason for it to be in the airstream like that. I don't know why every manufacturer makes this same mistake.

As to the sound... well not much lost, M50x sound terrible anyway, well shaped response overall, fun, but painful sibilance, void above 12k. It's half to 2/3rds of a good pair of headphones.

Interesting conclusion. Quite the opposite of other reviewers so far. Here are my five cents:

Best headset mic on the market, sidetone, comfortable, durable construction and decent sound.

Personally I think the sound from the headset mic was more pleasing then the sound from your studio mic.

I don’t care if the sound is not exactly like the M50X (did you try both pads btw?). There is nothing even close to this in the market right now. Just waiting for these to get in stock locally.

If there was one headphone w/mic built in out there that has amazing mic quality which one would you suggest? Ive even considered trying out some broadcasting headphones but I would think the sound is pretty bad.

Also this headphone might not suit you to review and that’s ok but it would be great if you can review an akg n700nc m2 it’s actually the one I use and I’m rlly happy with it I think you should take a good look at them

100% the difference in sound is due to the different earpads. The earpads that come with the STS version are different to the og version, which includes the replacement pleather pads.
