I have never used Motul oil in any of my vehicles before, but after reading several great reviews on this product I had to give Motul 8100 X-Clean EFE a try in the Subaru Forester XT. I wanted to see if it truly ran more quietly and smoother as the reviews stated.

So happy to see a review of Motul 8100. This is a bit of an unsual oil here in the States. In my trip to the Philippines I would see signs and advertisements for Motul quite often wherever motorcycle or scooter dealers and shops were. I knew it was a European brand but the first time I actually saw it in person was in Asia. Motul manufactures a lot of motorcycle oil. There's more motorcycles and scooters in Asia than anywhere else. They do make oil for Automotive use but I think their largest share of the market is in motorcycle oil which they are really good at. They are name brand. They are right up there with Amsoil, Shaeffers, Mobil 1, and Castrol. What I like about Motul is they didn't hop on the bandwagon of long drain intervals. Both Mobil 1, Amsoil and Castrol love advertising their top of the line oil capable of 20, 000 or 25, 000 miles drain intervals. Honestly I think that is a terrible idea. Because some cars live up north with plenty of cold starts. Some have a lot of short trips with lots of stop and go and idling. Other cars might sit for a months in a garage and oil goes bad if you drive or not. IMHO the long drain intervals are for the lucky few who have a type of vehicle and the means to get it modified to have a bypass oil filter. And that would make all the difference. There was a time when GM used an optic eye on some of their models that can tell if the oil needs changing just by looking at it with a sensor. But it didn't catch on. Too bad because that technology saves a lot of money in oil changes and in theory your engine should last longer if the oil is always changed in time thanks to said device.
