March 19th, 1992, 8 days after my 14th birthday, my father & step mom took me to Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto Ontario Canada for Dire Straits for this tour, the On Every Street Tour. Although the concert I went to wasn't used in the On The Night album, this version was what they played. The entire arena went silent & lit up with lighters when this song started. My first girlfriend Mytch was with us. Ny dad & stepmom "went for drinks" & let Mytch & I enjoy this song. One of the most beautiful performances I've ever been fortunate enough to see. Mytch passes 6 months later. Im married now & my amazing wife told me she wanted to dance to this song at our wedding to honour my first love, & to begin our future together, & we did. I consider myself privileged to have seen these gentlemen live, & this song will always have a very special place in my heart. Oct. 2024

Absolutely the best performance of the best love song ever. I went to see them play this set at my local football stadium, Portman Rd in Ipswich on the 18th June 1992, with my now ex-wife (RIP) and my brother. 31 Years later, still the best night of my life. Nothing comes close. ❤

Mark is pure magic and Dire Straits are the best band in the world, and if they don't want to put them at No.1, the Whole band should at least be on the podium. Mark has an unmistakable touch that makes you dream; his lyrics are refined and sophisticated, often steeped in mystery and full of ancient memories. Mark is the king of rock at once elegant and powerful, and the whole band blends into a superlative architecture. Dire Straits is so unique that it is beyond any comparison. They are just Dire Straits.

How different this is to the album version. Listening to the concert recordings it’s evident that the group were continually evolving and expanding their music as a live band through their oerfomances. We are so lucky to have this legacy to enjoy today.

As a young drummer back in 79 or 80 I barged into what thought was an empty practice studio in south London with my kit only to find a band set up and ready to play. I apologized and turned to leave only to see all the Dire Straights flight cases along the back wall. Great memories.

I was at the On the Night Tour back in 1992 - Dire Straits had, by then, evolved into an incredible gathering of many superb musicians, a huge advance from how they started with just three guitars and drums. Dire Straits at the end were just out of this world, superb music that just defies description, and the On the Night Tour was an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life.
