I was neighbors with Henri Mancini and family growing up. He bought the house in front of mines as a wedding gift to his son and new wife across the street from us in Santa Monica, California. I use to play with his grandson and grandkids. I never understood what a brilliant composer he was when I was a kid. Now at the age of 48 this song brings me back to the many memories of life. I remember watching this movie as a 12 year old impressionable boy. I fell in love with that actress who played Juliet. I said to myself I will find my Juliet when I grew up. Little did I know that the love of my life would be a beautiful Mexican girl whose father made her marry another Mexican guy. I could not talk her out of her marrying that guy because she could not abandon her father and her family.

The day she got married, I went to my office party and this older lady saw me looking at the San Diego bay through this large window and she asked me how I am. I must have looked at her with such sad eyes, she told me I look like I lost my puppy. I chuckled because that was all I could manage in that moment of life’s cruel irony. Music brings back memories instantly as if time stood still after all these years. Unfulfilled love leaves a scar in your heart that never goes away, no matter how much time has passed.
