I really love the MLRS-2 from Infinite. The design feels more like a UNSC weapon and the mechanics make it more skill focused. 1-shot then a follow up melee can kill. 1 shot at a doomed vehicle can initiate the destruction instantly, firerate is slower so it requires more thoughtful use with individual missiles having more impact

I do wish it had a different name though. Idk, it’s usually vehicles in Halo that use animal/creature names with weapons being named after their function. Hydra always stuck out to me as being an odd name for a halo gun, alongside bulldog

Considering how the hydra is commonly used by Brutes of the Banished, I would imagine they have a means to produce aftermarket munitions for this weapon

I miss the Saw. Especially the "The Answer" variant from Halo 5

I love the little radar disc on the MLRS-2 makes it feel more functional. the MLRS-1 makes sense as an early version though. I do find the MLRS-2 reloading a bit weird but fun

Call me insane if you do not agree because for me the hydra looks overly long for the fact that the core mechanism is a revolving rocket pod so why not use that wasted back-space for a magazine? Either as is but with a magazine like a shotgun or the magazine and barrels as one unit like the Typhoon from Crysis 3. Keeping the revolving cylinder but adding a rapid swap option for a pre-loaded ammo module is also good by my yard stick.

Wish we had more futuristic stuff from the unsc like the gauss weaponry rather than the centuries old ar's and vehicles

I genuinely love the feel of the Hydra from the campaigns of *Halo 5: Guardians* and *Halo: Infinite.*

Not to mention the Pursuit Hydra, which is the upgraded variant in *Halo: Infinite, * is very fun to use against Banished forces and vehicles in the campaign as well. 🔥👍🏻

As a weapon the hydra is ok, but I like it from a world building perspective. To me, it comes across as a squad support weapon to target shielded enemies. The UNSC is still facing squads of less armored soldiers with more armored or shielded squad leads. The regular UNSC trooper is still unshielded, and using bullet weapons. The hydra is a lightweight weapon that anyone can carry as a small arm. Use the missile guidance to outrange plasma weapons, and focus on the enemy squad lead. Your fellow troopers can deal with the enemy grunts effectively with their bullet weapons. Hydra is much easier to carry, and requires less training than the sniper rifle. I want to see more troopers using the hydra in the future. Bullets struggle with shields, but rockets do just fine. The UNSC needs more weapons to deal with shields.

This looks like what my IWI TS12 wants to be when it grows up!

I like the halo 5 hydra more than infinite. Looks cooler feels better to shoot.

So this is the final iteration of the Nerf Maverick.

The UEE of Star Citizen and the UNSA of COD:Infinite Warfare are great examples of what the UNSC should actually look like militarily, the human ingenuity is present in both without having an external influence, there areva few others that i can add EVE being one.

The US military made a similar weapon the XM25 CDTE which was a semi-automatic smart grenade launcher that fired 25 mm airburst grenade launcher with programmable ammunition derived from the XM29 OICW. It was fielded to soldiers serving in the War in Afghanistan in 2010.

Then someone decided to google what constitutes an exploding bullet and are exploding bullets illegal in war and the 25mm air burst grenade launcher turned out to be a war crime. So they quietly got rid of it. Because if you can program a grenade to explode a few inches past whatever the bad guy is hiding behind you can just point it at the bad guy and program it to explode a couple inches inside that bad guy.

What I am saying with this is that the Hydra using air burst smart missiles doesn't mean that some Spartan or some ODST wouldn't or couldn't set a missile to explode a couple inches inside some Grunt or Brute. It's actually more likely the Hydra has two fire modes one for air burst and one for armor piercing high explosive. Ie exploding inside of the target. Considering to damage an armor vehicle you need to pierce the armor. Shooting fragments of a missile at an armored vehicle isn't going to do more than scratch the paint.

We don't throw fragmentation grenades at armored vehicles for a reason.

Praise the Omnisaiah, the holy Boltor 🙌

Kinda surprised the hydra’s missiles are listed as air bursting which wouldn’t be too effective against heavily armoured foes like rouge Spartans hunters or brutes. Maybe there is an armour piercing version though.

The US military seriously needs this capability. It is a revolutionary weapon. To combine anti-materiel, anti-drone, and sniper capabilities into one weapon is a game changer.

I prefer the Hydra from “Halo 5, ” in terms of gameplay and aesthetics.
